In lobed melon shape, this silver box features fine repousse designs all over the surface, with an applied branch holding various flowers and leaves. Underneath the branch is a large leaf with numerous pointed ends, all stamped and decorated. It measures 5 1/2" high, 5 3/4" in diameter and weighs roughly 11 troy ounces. Stamped T900 on the base. The lid fits tightly, and the box is in good condition, no apparent dents, losses, or other damage. It is probably Turkish, though similar forms are seen throughout the Middle East, and have been traditional forms in the region for many centuries. Probably designed as a box for jewels or other small and important objects. Silver and other decorative arts from Islamic regions often have such lush floral designs, with fine details and expert craftsmanship. It is a very lovely piece of silver, well designed and crafted, and in fine condition for its age. Shipping via USPS priority mail with insurance.
