By the London silversmith, John Keith, this ornate cream jug was made in 1853.
The hallmarks are all clear, and include the silver standard, Queen Victoria, the date mark and mark of Keith.
It measures 5 1/4" high and is 4 1/4" wide from tip of lip to handle.
Lovely rococo repousse designs, with the base standing on four feet in the shape of hooves.
There is a small bird engraved on the front, not clear in photos, and also worn.
Condition is good, with some tarnish visible, and slight dents, abrasions to surface, wear to higher spots, all to be expected from usage over 160 years.
John Keith founded his company in 1824, and it was in operation for approximately 100 years, and he specialized in creating silver items for the Church.
Very nice example of his more secular items, as his religious works were often more sedate and austere.
