An extraordinary pair of early 19th century Sheffield plate covered entree servers, with beautiful shell designs on all corners. They each measure 12 1/2" x 9 1/4" x 6 1/2" high and are unsigned. The final is removable, so that the lid can also be used as a server, and the interior of the lid has additional rope design edging. All four corners of lids and bases are richly adorned with shells, flowers, and foliate elements, very unique and beautiful. Very substantial weight, the each weigh just under 5 pounds. The lids are both engraved with the figure of a standing lion. Each dish is marked with a number, with the number on all three sections, the base, the lid, and the finial (the numbers are 3 and 4, so there may have been only a few examples of this particular form created) The condition is very good, considering the age and usage. The bottoms both show wear to the silver plate on all four corners, with the copper base showing through. Other than some minor scratching and abrasions, the surface is in excellent condition, some minor bits of tarnish visible. These are definitely old Sheffield plate, and are beautiful examples of the very fine and enduring works created in the late Georgian and early Victorian era in England. Please see all photos for details, and email any questions. Additional photos available upon request. Price is for pair, they are not sold separately. Shipping via USPS or Fedex.
