Wonderful folk art box of a pyramid that opens to reveal sections to hold cigarettes and matches. The entire surface is inlaid with square or rectangular pieces of wood in varying shades of brown and beige. It measures 5 1/2" high and is 9 3/8" square, sitting on 4 geometric feet. Surface appears to have a light varnish coating. The form is a copy of the pyramid at Chichen Itza in the Yucatan Peninsula. a classic Mayan pyramid. All the moving sections operate well, and the top section rises when open, to make the cigarettes or matches easy to remove. Very well designed and put together, this is a really nice example of interesting and creative folk art. The final result of this design and construction demonstrates the exceptional skill and imagination of the artist. In fine condition, no damage, slight variation in sections, but it all works well and is well balanced. Please see all photos for details and email any questions.
