Striking pair of large vases by Gouda Pottery of Holland. They each measure 12" high and roughly 7" wide. Each marked on bottom, with both impressed and inscribed marks. Impressed numbers include 2144 and P 503, and in addition to the Gouda Holland marks written, the number 2144 is at the top, with KL 503 and what are likely the artist's initials in a rectangular cartouche JVS. The design is not written on either, and it seems to represent a floral element withing a rather geometric format. The work could possibly be one of the Persian or Damascus designs. The glaze is matte, with a very soft sheen. The base color is a charcoal black, the top is dark brown, and the floral design is composed of rust/red, yellow, orange, blue against a light turquoise circle, on a band of cream color, mustard and yellow. Two bands of green and blue are at top and bottom of central design. Both are in very fine condition, no chips or cracks, a small chip on the foot of one, hardly visible from the side. The sizes are wonderful, big and dramatic, and a pair is always desirable. Please see all photos for details and email any questions. Price is for pair.
