Brooch of sterling silver, carved in traditional Northwest Coast or Haida design, with eagle form, has safety clasp and loop for hanging as pendant.
Measures 1 3/4" x 1 5/8", domed shape.
Unsigned, guaranteed to be sterling.
Crafted in the tradition of artists of the Northwest coast, especially the Haida, the design and abstracted forms are beautifully etched, with fine detail and areas of cross hatching. The most important and enduring artist who worked in silver was Charles Edenshaw, and this piece follows his very precise and artful style.
Note that the piece is hand etched, not a cast or manufactured piece.
This brooch was made before 1990, based upon the history of the previous owner.
As it is vintage, there are signs of wear, slight abrasions to the surface, and some visible tarnish. No dents or damage, and clasp works well.
An especially lovely example of fine silver work, in the wonderful tradition of First Nation artisans.
