ntique Chinese embroidery on silk, gold thread depicting dragons, flaming pearls, birds, lions and scrolling designs, outer banks of silk in blue and grey, back is black material, appears to be cotton, 19th century or earlier. Measures 40' x 10". The center of the panel (it was made in 2 sections, joined at center) depicts birds in flight, next to them are foo lions in gold and white or silver thread, with large dragons next, all in bright gold thread, eyes of black and white. The dragons are the largest figures on the panel, both have 5 claws and fierce expressions. Condition shows heavy wear to the outside band of blue silk, some losses and separation also in the figural part of the panel, some loose threads, bands on both ends are loose and also show loss to blue silk. If framed properly, the silk will be stabilized and the separations in the center panel will hardly be obvious. Black cloth on back appears to be cotton and is intact and strong. Please note the condition issues, as this item is sold as is. The long panels may have been part of a robe or altar cloth, were sewn into bands for display and to protect them from damage. Please see all photos for details and email any questions.
