Price for Pair

Matched pair of Satsuma vases with cobalt ground, each depicting two large panels with Japanese women and children in a landscape with a lakeside village and mountains in the background, flowering trees on outcroppings, gilding highlights over clothing of women and children, both signed with Shimazu crest and Kinkozan mark. Measure 12" high, 7" wide at shoulder, and 4 3/8" at base. Well painted and detailed vignettes of lovely women and children in an idyllic landscape, the images very similar, painted with very slight differences, obviously created as a pair. The body of the Satsuma is fairly thick and heavy, shown clearly in photos of bottoms. Note that the cobalt appears almost black in the photos, but it is a deep blue. There is considerable gilt details on all of the clothing, visible in photos where there is direct light and reflection on the gold. Condition is very good, shows loss of gilding on cobalt background, some still visible on foot and in a few places on sides, one very slight rub to the cobalt on the shoulder, no cracks, chips or other losses. As they show wear from use and handling, are sold as is. Please see all photos for details and email any questions. Shipping via USPS or Fedex with tracking and shipping.
