Here is a hard-to-find Billiken stick pin! Billiken was patented in 1908 by Florence Pretz, in Kansas City, MO. She designated him “the god of things as they ought to be” – what a fantastic conceit! Paye & Baker, of Attleboro, MA were given exclusive rights to make Billikens in silver and gold (see “Warman’s Jewelry, 3rd ed, by Christie Romero. Every time I saw Christie she was wearing a gold Billiken necklace). He measures 9/16 x 3/8 x 2-1/4" long, and weighs 1.2g...

Here is a sweet little pansy pendant! Pansies have been equated with thoughtfulness, free thinking, and deep contemplation. Shakespeare’s Ophelia said "There's pansies, that's for thoughts." This little pansy is made from (tested) 10k gold, with a modern-looking 14k bale, probably the result of a later change. The enamel on the upper petals is orange, and on the lower petals, it shades from dark yellow through to white, with some darker details, and a (cultured?) pearl center...

This beautiful Art Nouveau dragon doesn't hoard treasure--he is a treasure! The pin is 18 k gold (tested). The wings are edged in 7 rose-cut diamonds each and his tail is tipped with more rose-cut diamonds. He holds an Old English cut diamond in his beak. The pin is 1 3/8” X 1 ¼”. It has an early-style safety catch. The hinge is a replacement. There are no marks. Circa 1900.

This pair of matching gold pins is made from richly-colored yellow gold. They would make an excellent addition to your collection of Victorian jewelry! Measuring 1-1/4” x 1/4”, they say “BEBE” on the front. They test as 9k, and together they weigh 3.0g. The findings are signed “VID”. There are tiny flowers and other floral designs at the edges. It looks like the safety-pin findings are old replacements...

SOLD! THANK YOU!
Here is a splendid, very feminine necklace which drapes beautifully over the collarbones. It is made from an unusual hue of rose gold – closer to red than I’m used to seeing in antique jewelry. The garlands of gold are highlighted by 5 tiny stars of gold set with seed pearls and hanging from little plaques which are also set with seed pearls. The whole thing measures 15-1/4”, and the drapery section is 6-3/8”. The longest drape falls about 1-1/4”...

This lovely and unusual Georgian pin is most likely a mourning piece. Made from 18k yellow gold, with rose gold and platinum accents, the center panel has two hearts (one of gold, one of platinum) under beveled crystal. It is surrounded by gold and platinum flowers and leaves, and has a delicate cannetille framework. It is unmarked, but tests as 18k. It weighs 3.6g or .12oz, and measures 7/8” x 5/8”, so it is quite small. Probably English, it is circa 1835...

Here is a romantic stick pin for your lapel, depicting a woman in profile with a pearl nestled into the curls of her hair. It would make a great gift for a man or a woman, or a sweet addition to your own collection. Marked 14k, it’s made from yellow gold, and signed by the maker, Whiteside & Blank. It measures 2-3/8”, and weighs 2.0g. The pin is slightly bent, and the back is dented a little, but this doesn’t detract from the beauty of this enchanting jewel when worn. Historical note: Mr...

Here is a lovely Victorian cameo, set in flourishes of yellow gold and decorated with 4 pearls. The background is a slightly darker pink than the lady. The attention to detail in the carving is very nice, and she is in excellent condition. There is one missing pearl, but it’s unnoticeable. It seems to say “SIG” in script across the back. The bale is signed with “10K” inside what looks like a stylized “C”. It measures 1-13/16” not including the bail, by 1”...

Here is a pretty plique a jour pin in the shape of a stylized moth, German or Austrian in origin. The body has 4 colorless paste stones, and there is an emerald green paste stone in the tail. The plique shades from green to white to peach. 1-1/2” by 3/4”, and stamped “800” on the back. It is in excellent antique condition and circa 1900. Here is a splendid locket depicting some sort of creature: zephyr? Lion? Or some other mythological critter? He has a diamond in his mouth, and his eyes are red stones (too small to ID). Measuring 1-1/8”, weighing 9.5g, and marked 10k, he is set up for 2 photographs with both celluloid and photo rings. He's a somewhat rosy gold (NOTE that it was really hard to capture the color of the gold in the photographs), and has the maker’s mark for Kroll. In excellent condition and circa 1900...

Here is a set composed of cuff links made from 2 large oval (3/4” x 1/2”) peacock glass cabs set in textured circles of gold-toned metal measuring just under 1” across, and a tie tack made from a smaller cab (3/8” x 1/4”), also set in gold-toned metal. The set was probably made in the 1950s or ‘60s, although the peacock glass itself is probably from the early 20th C. Unmarked and in excellent condition. Peacock eye glass is very collectible! Here is a fantastic necklace, in the style of Murrle, Bennett and other Arts & Crafts designers of high renown. It is unsigned, which is not unusual. It features a central silver panel with a big labradorite cab, 3/4” x 9/16”. The whole panel with dangles measures 13/16” x 1-7/8”. The wearable length is 24”, and there are 20” worth of labradorite beads, most having the distinctive and beautiful blue flash for which that stone is known. The clasp has a very pretty flower and leaf desi...

Here is a striking stickpin, featuring a bright green tourmaline (said to aid in self confidence and compassion). It is surrounded by a gold Art Nouveau framework, with a rose below. Here is a Victorian gold-in-quartz (also called “gold quartz” and “gold-bearing quartz”) brooch. Gold-in-quartz is rare and becoming more so. It’s our understanding that it is now found in very few places in the world – possibly only one mine in California. The 14kt yellow gold setting has twisted gold on top of a carved gold oval. It measures 1-3/8 x 1-1/8" and weighs 6.8g. The pin assembly has been replaced. In excellent condition. The photos are part of the description, so please ...

This elegant ring comes right out of the Art Deco era of Downton Abbey, The Great Gatsby, etc. The diamond is a very sparkly “transitional” cut diamond (a style that came between old European cut and modern round brilliant cut). It weighs approximately .63, the color is in the JKL range, and it is just really pretty. We don’t really know how to photograph diamonds, so the photos don’t do it justice. The diamond is set in platinum, and the ring shank is (stamped) 14k gold. There is a make...

Just in time for Halloween, here is a very detailed bat, wings spread wide, ready to flitter through the night sky. In China, bats are a symbol of good luck. To Native Americans, they are symbolic of intuition, journeying, and rebirth. And then of course there’s that whole vampire thing. This bat is stamped 925 for sterling silver. It measures 2” x 1-1/8”. The 24” chain is marked 925 Italy. Together they weigh 17.8g. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefull...

This bangle bracelet is quintessentially Victorian. It is a hinged bangle made in the crossover style, with an ornamented top. The rectangular box ornament on top is flanked by a half-circle ornament on either side. It is gold filled, with moderately worn plating and dates from the late 1800s or very early 1900s. It is unmarked.
