Here is a beautiful sash buckle, designed for Tiffany by the famous George Shiebler. It is marked “Tiffany & Co,” the winged S for Shiebler, “Sterling,” and “4758” (we’re not sure what that means). It is 3” x 2”, with a slight curve to it, and weighs 42.2g/1.49oz. Decorated with a floral motif, it’s a beauty. Geo. W. Shiebler & Co. was in business under that name from 1876 until almost 1915. It came in a Tiffany fabric bag, which may be original to the piece. In excellent con...

Gentlemen: this terrific lion is just waiting to take his place on your tie or lapel! Made from unmarked but tested 14kt yellow gold, with tiny red stones for eyes, and a (cultured?) pearl in his jaws, he measures 7/16” x 1/2”. The findings are either a low-carat gold or gold filled. The lion himself weighs 1.5g, and the total weight is 4.1g. He probably began life as a stickpin, circa 1900, and is in excellent condition. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefull...

This pin from England features a large peridot (1 cm x 6 mm or 3/8” x 2/8”), and, on either side, pearl-set gold shamrocks. Flanking those are 3 demantoids per side, plus 1 above and 1 below the peridot. (Peridot symbolizes spring and youthfulness, and it is said to bring health and wealth.) On either side is a whiplash of gold with more pearls. Stamped 15ct. The brooch weighs 5.1 g and measures 1-9/16” x 5/8”. Three of the tiny seed pearls are missing, but this is unnoticeable without m...

Joan is a patron saint of France, and patron saint of soldiers. This is an intricate design by Edmond-Henri Becker, well-known French medalist. The front of this piece shows Joan of Arc in profile, also a shield decorated with a sword, a crown, and 2 fleurs-de-lis. Above her head is a banner saying “1429” and “Jehanne d’Arc”. The back shows a banner with a saint (or possibly the Madonna and Child – the metal is a bit worn here) with two people praying. Also shown are a spear, the pom...

This Victorian pin is a gorgeous Egyptian Revival design with a vulture rendered in gilded silver and plique a jour. The wings are yellow-green plique shading to burnt orange. Wing tops are opaque enamel in yellowish green. The pin is centered with a matching stone which is to date [and probably forever] unidentified. It is not peridot, nor is it glass. The pin is 2" across and is circa 1880.

This large sterling silver buckle was made by Unger Bros in the early 20th century. A classic scroll and acanthus design ornaments this one piece buckle. It is 4 1/4" x 2 1/2" and would be stunning on a black velvet sash! It us marked sterling, 925 and bears the Unger Bros mark.

Amethyst is the birthstone for February and this sweet lavalier gives the look for a modest price...a charming necklace and an eye-catcher when worn. The stone is amethyst-colored glass and the metal is gold fill. It is not marked, but the 20" gold-fill chain bears the maker's mark for Bates & Bacon. The lavalier is 1 1/8 X 3/4", not including the fresh-water pearl dropper. Circa 1900.

Here is a very Victorian gold quartz (also called “gold-in-quartz” and “gold-bearing quartz”) brooch. Gold-in-quartz is rare and becoming more so! It’s our understanding that it is now found in very few places in the world – possibly only one mine in California. The 14k setting has twisted gold on top of a carved gold oval. It measures 1-3/8 x 1-1/8" and weighs 6.8g. The pin assembly has been replaced. In excellent condition. The photos are part of the description, so please read car...

This pretty stick pin is classic Art Nouveau. It is centered by an amethyst, birthstone for February. Back in the day, amethysts were thought to ward off drunkenness, as well as being a cure for headaches (we see a theme here!). There is a seed pearl above and one below, all mounted in a (marked and tested) 14k “whiplash” frame (the whiplash motif was very popular with Nouveau artists of all types). Measuring 1/2” x 2-1/4" long, it weighs 1.5g. There is an illegible maker’s mark. The pi...

This lovely slide bracelet has 11 (10K & 14k) gold slides, some of which have opals and seed pearls and what looks like coral. The central slide depicts a beautiful Art Nouveau flower. The clasp is gold filled or 9k, the gold paperclip chain tests as 10k, but the round beads are hard to test beyond confirming that they are gold. One slide has a 14k hallmark and a maker’s mark, and one other has a maker’s mark, which looks like an oak leaf. It weighs in at 16.6g. It is about 7-1/2” long, 7...

Although this jewel is English, it reflects the aesthetics of fin de siècle France and Russia, with its pink topazes and demantoid (green) garnets. The fairly large oval topazes are surrounded by swirls of seed-pearl-set gold, and set off by 4 bright green demantoid garnets, 2 of which are set into the fine chains which connect the top section to the bottom; of the other 2, the top one is a modified pear shape, the other oval. It measures 2” long by 1-1/8” across at the widest point, and we...

This delicate little pendant was made by Jean-Baptiste-Emile Dropsy, one of the famous French medalists. The design was usually made out of a heavy gold plate, but this one is 18k rosy gold, unmarked but tested. Signed by Dropsy on the front, as is usual with French medals, it measures 1/2” in diameter (with the jump ring, 7/8”), and weighs 1.5g. It could be worn as a pendant or a very classy charm. In excellent condition, showing a gentle patina, and circa 1900. The photos are part of the ...

These 10kt yellow gold cuff links sport an ivy motif – one of our favorites! Ivy is symbolic of growth, marriage, and friendship. The decorated ends measure 3/4” x 1/2”, and they weigh 3.2g. Unmarked, they test at 10k, and we believe them to be from the Art Nouveau period. In excellent condition, and really sweet. The photos are part of the description so please examine them carefully.
