Here is a pretty woman’s face in profile. Her long golden hair trails down to end with a tiny baroque or freshwater pearl. Total length of the face, hair and pearl is nearly 3/4”. This design was based on a drawing by Charles Dana Gibson – a Gibson Girl! (Please see the final photograph.) It is marked 14k, weighs 1.2g, and is in excellent condition. It doesn’t have a maker’s mark, but we have seen this same stick pin with Alling’s mark. Circa 1910. The photos are part of the descrip...

We love this necklace! It features a central (tested) silver panel with a big labradorite cab, 3/4” x 9/16”. The whole panel with dangles measures 13/16” x 1-7/8”. The dangles are set with more labradorite cabs on chains. The wearable length is 24”, and there are 20” worth of labradorite beads, most having the distinctive blue flash for which that stone is known. The clasp has a very pretty flower and leaf design, and it’s stamped 925 on the back. The beads are on knotted string, a...

Here is a pair of quite unusual cuff links! We have only seen one other pair with photos, and those were not in precious metal. Each has a photograph of an elegant lady in a white high-necked blouse with upswept hair. These were clearly worn a lot, based on the patina, but they still look great. The 10k marks are on the back of the fronts only, not on the “torpedo” ends, and we don’t like to test torpedoes, so can’t promise that they are also 10k, but they certainly look like it. The fro...

This pin is very Victorian in style. It is gold filled base metal and is 1 ¼" wide. The center ball element is a 3/8" across, with applied circles of wire rope around a vertical, rectangular bar set with 2 rose cut red pastes and 1 cabochon ‘turquoise’. A hollow ball dangles from two chains; another connects the pin to the stickpin, a Very Victorian element, which acts as a safety.

The Daughters of Liberty was formed ~1766, shortly after the Sons of Liberty. This group of brave women boycotted British products and made use of traditional women's skills such as weaving and spinning, to support the cause of liberty. This charming 14 k gold pin is a bit of history, an homage to the group. It sports an enameled flag, initials, No. 5, and the date 1860. The pin is 1 X 1/1/2" in size.

This Victorian-style ring was very nicely designed. The elaborate gothic prongs set off the large iolite (approx. 2 ct.), and there are 4 small single cut accent diamonds. The setting measures 7/8” north to south, and 3/4” east to west. Approximately size 8-1/2. It is marked 14k, the setting is red gold and the shank is yellow gold (possibly because it was re-sized at some point?). The stones are in excellent condition, and of a modern cut. The photos are part of the description; please exa...

Stick pins are pins similar to small dressmaker pins, except that they are longer and often have quite ornamental tops to them. Scarf and Stick Pins have been popular for well over 200 years, dating back to the 18th century, where they were worn by gentlemen of the establishment. This beautiful stickpin is made of 14 k white gold and is set with an unidentified colorless gemstone...not diamond or one of the common substitutes for diamond. Not glass or plastic--it's a real stone. Also a real m...

This lovely French lavalier, which measures 1-1/8” (not including the jump ring) by 11/16”, features 3 rose cut diamonds and 3 (cultured?) pearls. Marked only “DEPOSE” (translates roughly as “patented”), it tests as 18k. The stones are set in white metal, but it’s hard to tell whether it’s gold or platinum. 2.1g. We believe this used to be part of a larger piece, however, the transformation was done very skillfully, and it is in overall very good condition. There is a small dent ...

This gorgeous necklace features 13 madeira citrines (birthstone for November; they are said to bring joy and optimism into one’s life) – 3 clusters of 3 each, and 4 set singly. The central cluster has a pearl dangle. The rose gold is marked 9ct on the clasp, but it tests as a weak 10k. No other marks. Wearable length is 18-3/4”. Excellent condition. The clasp is a little fussy, but could easily be replaced; we don’t want to do that, since it’s original to the piece. Circa 1910 or earli...

Plique a jour, that unusual, difficult, and beautiful enameling technique that gives a stained glass effect, dates from the 15th century. It was used by Cellini, then revived in the late 1800s in France. This plique a jour pendant is centered with an oval opal and accented with eight colorless brilliants and a fresh water pearl dropper. The translucent enamel is an unusual and lovely blue in color. The metal is 900 silver, suggesting that the piece is most likely German or Austrian in origin. Ci...

Rubies symbolize devotion, love, and immortality. Pearls symbolize purity and harmony. What a great combination for these pretty earrings! They test as 10kt gold, although they are marked 375 for 9kt. The hanging flower basket motif is quite charming! They contain a total of 16 rubies and 18 seed pearls. The total length is 1-7/8”, and together they weight 4.3g. As usual with older earrings, it’s possible that the wires are replacements. In excellent condition. We believe they are Edwardia...

This extremely cool and very collectable brooch depicts 5 turbaned “blackamoors.” Made from (unmarked, tested) 14k rose gold, and black and white enamel, the details are picked out in gold (their eyes, mouths, collars and turbans). There is a partial hallmark on the pin, and old repair to the pin stem assembly (invisible from the front), and some damage to the black enamel, especially the two outer figures’ noses and the chin of the rightmost figure. The pin weighs 6.0g or .21oz, and it me...

This lovely Art Nouveau lavaliere is unusual with its square lines at the top, making it both charmingly antique and very modern in appearance. It is made of 9 ct gold and is set with small pearls, amethysts [the smaller stones] and a large, central garnet/glass doublet. [Garnet/glass doublets were a common substitution in the Victorian age, when amethyst was one of the most valuable gemstones. Making them was often a family affair, done in the evenings around the kitchen table.] The pendant is...
