This lovely slide bracelet has 11 (10K & 14k) gold slides, some of which have opals and seed pearls and what looks like coral. The central slide depicts a beautiful Art Nouveau flower. The clasp is gold filled or 9k, the gold paperclip chain tests as 10k, but the round beads are hard to test beyond confirming that they are gold. One slide has a 14k hallmark and a maker’s mark, and one other has a maker’s mark, which looks like an oak leaf. It weighs in at 16.6g. It is about 7-1/2” long, 7...

Here is a pretty and detailed pin, possibly depicting St. Catherine, patroness of young maidens and female scholars. There is a “Catherine wheel” in the background (but it could also be a spinning wheel or a ship's wheel – so you can make up your own mind!), and a flower in the foreground. Her clothing looks very Renaissance era to us. Marked “SILVER” on the C-clasp, with an illegible maker’s mark, the metal tests as sterling, and she’s a dainty 7/8” in diameter. 2.5g. In excelle...

Here is a striking pin, which is a mixture of the Art Nouveau and Victorian styles. The Victorians loved to use real insects, especially these green beetles, in jewelry. The Nouveau jewelers loved naturalistic motifs, but generally didn’t use the insect itself – yet the design of the pin is very Nouveau. Marked 14k, the pale gold setting contrasts nicely with the deep green of the beetle. The pin stem assembly is original. The clasp has a nice safety lever; it is bent a little bit but still ...

Here is a lovely lady with water lilies or lotuses in her hair. The lotus, a variety of water lily, has symbolized purity, enlightenment, and resurrection. This lady is remarkably similar to a piece made by the Unger Bros., but marked only STERLING – and the stamp is reversed. We believe her to be a copy, but still made around 1900 – this seemed to have happened fairly frequently back in the day! She has the patina of age, a pin stem assembly which is correct for the turn of the last century...

Here is a sky-blue enamel pendant with a blue enameled dropper. It tests as silver, probably sterling. It has two shades of light blue enamel on the front, highlighted by silver flourishes. The dropper is also enameled in shaded hues of blue. The enamel continues on the back in sky blue – such nice attention to detail! Excluding the bale, it is 1-1/2” long by just under 3/4” across. There are two tiny areas of enamel damage on the back, and a few areas that could use some cleaning – it i...

Here is a great pair of white gold-fronted double “Sunrise” cuff links. Each end is marked WHITE GOLD FRONT BELAIS 14K; TALON GRIP TRADEMARK, and is octagonal, measuring 5/8” x 7/16”, with rigid connectors that are hinged at one end. The Belais Brothers were among the first to develop a formula for white gold (their patent was for 1917). Many feel they were the premier workers in white gold, and their jewels are quite collectible. These show some wear to the gold, with a bit of red metal...

Perfect for a wedding (or any occasion at all), here is a very pretty starburst pin/necklace, made from 14k gold (marked and tested), set with seed pearls, and with an old European cut diamond in the center. It has a maker’s mark in the shape of a Maltese cross (we haven’t been able to track down the maker). Measuring 1-1/8”, it weighs 6g. The bail folds down nicely for wearing as a brooch. The 18” chain is gold filled, and not original to the piece. It comes with an antique dark blue ve...

Here is a splendid locket depicting some sort of creature: zephyr? Lion? Or some other mythological critter? He has a diamond in his mouth, and his eyes are red stones (too small to ID). Measuring 1-1/8”, weighing 9.5g, and marked 10k, he is set up for 2 photographs with both celluloid and photo rings. He's a somewhat rosy gold (NOTE that it was really hard to capture the color of the gold in the photographs), and has the maker’s mark for Kroll. In excellent condition and circa 1900. Chain n...

Emeralds (birthstone for May) have been thought to preserve love and bring wisdom. These sweet bright green emerald earrings are unmarked, but the gold tests as 14k. They are 13/16” long, and the buttercup settings measure 1/2” across. The stones measure 5-1/2mm across. I believe the ear wires used to have hooks to slip into, but those are gone and the stubs smoothed over for comfort. One of the emeralds is chipped in the back, but both stones face up well. The gold shows a nice patina and i...

An elegant queen graces the front of this antique locket. She wears a crown with a row of 7 tiny single-cut diamonds, and one slightly larger full-cut diamond at the top of the crown. Her hair cascades down to her shoulder, and gold disks hang from the crown. There is a little dent at about cheek bone height. The back has a monogram, possibly an S, and has several little dents, which are exaggerated in the photos. The rose gold (very hard to photograph the color accurately) tests at about 12k. I...

Antique plique a jour (translucent enamel) jewels are hard to come by these days – they are somewhat fragile, rare, and we believe that many of them are now in private collections. This lovely maple leaf pin is highlighted with paste accent stones along the main veins. The green plique is a very nice rich color. It seems to be missing one leaf. However, someone filled the space with a pretty drop made of green agate, so the loss is hardly noticeable. It is centered by a faux pearl. The plique ...

Here is a pair of identical rich yellow gold pins. They would be an excellent addition to your collection of Victorian jewelry! Measuring 1-1/4” x 1/4”, they say “BEBE” on the front. They test as 9k, weigh 3.0 g, and the findings are signed “VID”. There are tiny flowers and other floral designs at the edges. It looks like the safety-pin findings are old replacements. One of them has 2 brownish stains on the back, otherwise they are in excellent condition. The photos are part of the d...

This classic jewel consists of a circle of gold enameled in deep blue, with gold highlights. Through it is tied a 3-looped bow, decorated with tiny seed pearls, as are the bail and drop. There are a couple very minor flaws in the enamel that are not visible without magnification. It is stamped 15kt gold, and the gold has that lovely rich color we don't see any more. There is a place on the back where it looks as though someone made a repair using rose gold. The pendant measures just over 1-1/2...

Here is a gorgeous ring centered by a navette-shaped lapis lazuli (traditionally a stone of royalty, also signifying truth and inner strength), with specks of pyrite for a bit of sparkle. The stone measures 3/4” N to S, and 1/4” E to W. The setting is made of 14kt yellow gold, formed into graceful curlicues. It is stamped 14k, and also has a maker’s mark, which appears to be “KBN” and also a dot in a circle. The size is between 5-1/4 and 5-1/2, and it weighs 5.5g. This is an old design...

This gorgeous vulture is made of gilded silver [800] and plique a jour. It's a Victorian pin in the Egyptian Revival Style. The translucent wings are yellow-green, shading to burnt orange. The tops of the wings are opaque enamel in yellowish green. The pin is centered with a matching yellowish green stone which is to date [and probably forever] unidentified. It is not peridot, nor is it glass. The pin is 2" across and is circa 1880.

Here is a show-stopping charm bracelet! It has 20 charms. 11 are karat gold, the others are gold fill except (of course) the coral elephant and the silver enameled donkey. Check out the photos – there is a wild variety, from tools to musical instruments, to a gun (a pistol?). There are a few rings where there apparently used to be charms – perfect places to add your own. The charms are hung on a modified paperclip chain marked 14k gold. 6 charms are articulated. A few of the charms have some...

Here is a pin that we just love! The colors are so pretty, and the leafy design is so very Arts & Crafts. It consists of a berry and leaf motif, highlighted by a central cushion-cut cabochon blue chalcedony (thought to bring good luck), with a circular green aventurine cabochon on either side. Measuring 1-1/4” x 3/8", it is unmarked but tests as silver. It is in excellent condition, although the pin is a little bent (pretty typical for these old pieces). The pin stem assembly may be a replacem...

This beautiful sterling silver case was originally meant for cigarettes but could just as easily hold business cards or ???. It is lavishly engraved with an all-over swirling pattern and bears the initials FC in script. The case is 3 1/4" x 2 3/4". It is hallmarked for Birmingham, England, sterling silver, and 1927-28. The maker's mark is FHA & Co.
