Here is a terrific ring centered by a navette-shaped lapis lazuli (traditionally a stone of royalty, also signifying truth and inner strength), with specks of pyrite for a bit of sparkle. The stone measures 3/4” N to S, and 1/4” E to W. The setting is made of 14kt yellow gold, formed into graceful curlicues. It is stamped 14k, and also has a maker’s mark, which appears to be “KBN” and also a dot in a circle. The size is between 5-1/4 and 5-1/2, and it weighs 5.5g. Based on an old desig...

This sparkly stunner has 2 big paste stones (7/16”), 2 smaller ones (1/4”), and 8 small accent stones (there should be 9. One is missing, but it’s really hard to tell), set in white metal. The whole thing measures 2” x 9/16”. Stamped “Czechoslov” on the back, it is in overall good condition: the stones have a couple chips, and a little abrasion, but the stones are so sparkly it’s hard to spot these. The clasp is bent over a bit, but still works just fine. Circa 1920. The photos ...

This gorgeous vulture is made of gilded silver [800] and plique a jour. It's a Victorian pin in the Egyptian Revival Style. The translucent wings are yellow-green, shading to burnt orange. The tops of the wings are opaque enamel in yellowish green. The pin is centered with a matching yellowish green stone which is to date [and probably forever] unidentified. It is not peridot, nor is it glass. The pin is 2" across and is circa 1880.

Here is a very elegant brooch, featuring a large amethyst surrounded by a row of seed pearls, which are in turn surrounded by an enameled key pattern. Marked 14k, and signed by the Riker Bros. of Newark, NJ, it measures 1-3/16” x 13/16” and weighs 8.0g. It is in excellent condition overall, but with a very small ding to the upper left edge, and very tiny pitting in the enamel, which isn’t visible without magnification (or enlarged photos!). The photos are part of the description; please e...

Here is a pendant featuring a large amethyst, measuring about 10mm across. It is set in a framework of bright gold leaves that brings to mind the Arts and Crafts era, with another leaf on the bale, and a fringe of tiny seed pearls dangling below – sweet! From the top of the bale to the bottom of the fringe it measures 1-1/2”, and from side to side it is 3/4” at the widest points. It is marked and tested 14k gold and weighs 1.8g. We believe it was made during the 1960s, but we’re not sur...

Truly fit for a museum, this rare and wonderful Egyptian Revival pin has a portrait painted on porcelain. It is mounted in 800 silver and surrounded by 16 coral beads on wire. There have been some repairs [not visible from the front] as is so common in jewelry repaired in the 19th century. 1 1/4" diameter. Circa 1875.

Here is a very sweet ring, consisting of a flower made of 6 pearls (1 of which is a replacement), centered by a tiny rose cut diamond. There is a compartment underneath, perhaps for storing a tiny lock of hair, but the glass is gone. The ring tests as a very strong 14kt, so it is probably 15kt (and might be English). Cobalt blue enamel decorates the shoulders, which we’ve had touched up – this ring was obviously very well loved, and it’s still beautiful! Size 6. Early Victorian. We do lay-...

This cheerful brooch depicts a red poppy in full bloom, with buds and leaves. It was made by the well-known Bippart Griscomb & Osborn Company of Newark, New Jersey. Their maker’s mark is stamped on the back, as well as “14k”. Measuring 1” x 1-1/4”, it has the long pin stem often found on antique jewels. There is an interestingly-shaped pearl mounted at the top, and another dangling below. Poppies have symbolized peace, sleep (remember Dorothy crossing the field in The Wizard of Oz?), a...

Here is one of our very favorite pieces, a striking Jugendstil (Germany and Austria’s Arts & Crafts era) pendant which is enameled in white and purple. It is made from 900 silver (sterling is 925), and centered by a lovely oval amethyst which is flanked above and below by tiny seed pearls. There is a pearl dangle (which we added, as the original was missing) below an arc of milgrained metal. It measures 1-1/2” x 7/8” and weighs 4.7g. In overall excellent condition, there is an area on the ...

Here is one of our favorite rings. It features a jade-like green chalcedony center stone, surrounded by red and green Celtic interlace (also called entrelac) enamel. There is more interlace on the shank. Perfect for Christmas, but always very wearable. It is just slightly smaller than size 6, and the top measures 13/16” x 5/8”. Chalcedony was thought by Native Americans to promote harmony and good will. It is stamped 14K, and “KB”. There is a small amount of enamel loss, but otherwise i...

The popularity of all things Italian amounted to mania in the Victorian England of 1860-1880. Especially favored were objects of Etruscan design. This locket is gold fill, decorated with a dimensional Etruscan Revival motif that is punctuated with a pearl. The locket is 1 ½" long and is unmarked.

Here is a pretty pin made by Hermann & Speck, well-known jewelers of Pforzheim in Germany. It is centered by a blue sapphire, and there is a pearl dangle. It is marked 333 for 8kt gold (that was a new one for us!) but when we tested it, it held for 10k. It is also marked “Depose,” which translates roughly as “patent.” It measures 1-7/16” x 1" including the pearl dangle, and weighs 2.5g. In excellent condition, and circa 1900. This Masonic-themed spoon is marked STERLING F.A. WHELAN. Both sides of the bowl, the hilt, and the tip are gold washed. It has a lot of Masonic symbolism incorporated into the design. The dates on the spoon handle (1732-1799) are the birth and death dates for George Washington, who was a Mason. We have been told that the spoon is approximately 100 years old. It measures 4-1/8", and weighs 10.9g. There is a tiny shallow scratch in the metal of the bowl, in the upper right corner of photo number ...
