Here is a brush made by the well-known Gorham Manufacturing Company. The design looks like the top of an antique steamer chest, with a strapping and stud motif – very Steampunk. The top is monogrammed with a fancy "R". It has the Gorham marks, as well as “1857 C”, “Sterling,” and the scissors mark for 1907. It measures 6” x 1-3/4" across the top, and is in very good condition. Photo note: the bristles are an ivory color, but don’t show up that way in the photos. The photos are pa...

Here is a very elegant brooch, featuring a large amethyst surrounded by a row of seed pearls, which are in turn surrounded by an enameled key pattern. Marked 14k, and signed by the Riker Bros. of Newark, NJ, it measures 1-3/16” x 13/16” and weighs 8.0g. It is in excellent condition overall, but with a very small ding to the upper left edge, and very tiny pitting in the enamel, which isn’t visible without magnification (or enlarged photos!). The photos are part of the description; please e...

Amethyst? No. Glass. Gold? No. Gold fill. Do those facts mean this lavalier is any less lovely? No! This charming lavalier is both antique and eye-catching. The stone is amethyst-colored glass and the metal is gold-fill. The lavalier is not marked, but the 20" gold-filled chain bears the maker's mark for Bates & Bacon. The lavalier is 1 1/8 X 3/4", not including the fresh-water pearl dropper. Circa 1900.

This spirited fixe gryphon clutches a protective shield with clawed feet. His tail curls through the fanciful edges of the shield. Altogether a delightful companion to ornament a jacket or other garment. The trombone catch is a replacement but the old-style tube hinge is original. The 1 1/2" X 1 1/2" pin is marked FIX and is Art Nouveau in age, circa 1900.

The coin tests as silver, most likely sterling. On one side is the face of Friedrich (presumably) and his wife, a Maltese cross, and the words “FRIEDRICH * I * 1701 * WILHELM * II * 1901”, on the other side is an eagle with a crown above, and “DEUTSCHES REICH 1901 ZWEI MARK”. The rest is white metal. The swivel clasp has a mark, which looks like a plow. We haven’t been able to track it down. The coin and split ring weigh approximately .40oz, and the whole thing .94oz. The coin is 1-1/1...

Here is a show-stopper of a necklace, with lots of amethysts and seed pearls! The rigid cross piece has a chain running above it, through loops over five oval amethysts with very nice color, each set into an inverted heart-shaped framework, and separated from the next by a tiny pearl. Set below each amethyst is a seed pearl, and below the framework are draping chains, the central five each having a freshwater pearl dangle. At each end of the bar is an additional little round amethyst, for a tota...

Emeralds (birthstone for May) have been thought to preserve love and bring wisdom. These sweet bright green emerald earrings are unmarked, but the gold tests as 14kt. They are 13/16” long, and the buttercup settings measure 1/2” across. The stones measure 5-1/2mm across. I believe the ear wires used to have hooks to slip into, but those are gone and the stubs smoothed over for comfort. One of the emeralds is chipped in the back, but both stones face up well. The gold shows a nice patina and ...

Here is a very pretty watch pin made of marked and tested 14k gold, many seed pearls, and 2 accent diamonds. It has a leaf and motif, and 2 little flowers with heart-shaped petals, and we think it’s just beautiful. It measures 1-1/8 x 1-1/4" and weighs 6.9g. One seed pearl was missing, so we had it replaced. The pin stem assembly is original. In excellent condition, and circa 1910. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Here is a classic cigar band or “gypsy” ring, made from rich yellow 18kt gold. The center stone is a diamond, the outer two stones are rubies. It has decorative scroll work on the shoulders. The hallmarks are for Chester, 1903, and there is a maker’s mark that we can’t read. It weighs 4.0g, and is approximately size 5. The shank is a little off round, and it’s possible that it was sized at some time, however it is in excellent condition. The photos are part of the description; please ...

Here is a pretty French lavalier, which measures 1-1/8” (not including the jump ring) by 11/16”. It features 3 rose cut diamonds and 3 pearls. Marked only “DEPOSE” (translates roughly as “patented”), it tests as 18k. The stones are set in white metal, but it’s hard to tell whether it’s gold or platinum. 2.1g. We believe this used to be part of a larger piece, however, the transformation was done very skillfully, and it is in overall very good condition. There is a small dent on t...

This Edwardian/Art Nouveau necklace (too big to be considered a lavalier) would be perfect for a bride … or anyone, really, at any time! It measures 1-1/4” at the widest point, and from the top-most diamond to the bottom of the dropper it is 2-1/4”. The dropper is a dogtooth pearl, 11/16” long, which has a collar of gold around it, set with 3 diamonds, and swirls of gold holding 4 more little pearls. The “wow” factor is huge!
