This elegant lady is made from 14k gold – there is a partial mark, so we tested it to be sure. Her face is framed by a stylized shell motif, and she has flowers and a diamond in her upswept hair, as well as another diamond nestled in her décolletage. This watch pin or brooch is of hollow construction, and weighs 4.7g. It measures 1” x 1-1/4”. The pin stem assembly is original. Her face is a little worn in the high places, as is usual, and the back has darkened in a couple places. Also on ...

Here is a large amethyst, measuring about 10mm across. It is set in a framework of bright gold leaves that brings to mind the Arts and Crafts era, with another leaf on the bale, and a fringe of tiny seed pearls dangling below – sweet! From the top of the bale to the bottom of the fringe it measures 1-1/2”, and from side to side it is 3/4” at the widest points. It is marked and tested 14k gold and weighs 1.8g. We believe it was made during the 1960s, but we’re not sure – it could be ea...

This 9kt yellow gold necklace is centered by a dark red garnet, probably a spessartite. Garnets are the birthstone for January, and were traditionally thought to keep travelers safe. The danglelis set with a blister pearl of a mellow off-white color. There are 3 tiny seed pearls in the main setting. It is hallmarked “9ct”, and the attached chain is marked “375 9k.” The pendant measures 1-5/16" x 7/8", and the total length of the chain with the pendant is 16-3/4". The piece is in very goo...

Here is an interesting and unusual stick pin. Perfect for your lapel, the beetle is in very good condition (though the pin is slightly bent), and is set in unmarked but tested 14k rose gold. The beetle itself is 9/16” x 7/16” at the widest points, and is held firmly in place by 4 prongs. The whole thing is 2-3/4” long. The Victorians loved to use organic things in their jewelry, including real beetles. This particular type seems to have been a favorite. They are very collectible! Late Vict...

Here is a pair of very unusual cuff links! We have only seen one other pair with photos. Each cuff link has a photograph of an elegant lady in a white high-necked blouse with upswept hair. These were clearly worn a lot, based on the patina, but they still look great. The 10k marks are on the back of the fronts only, not on the “torpedo” ends, and we don’t like to test torpedoes, so can’t promise that they are also 10k, but they certainly look it. The fronts measure 7/8” x 5/8”, the t...

How very Art Nouveau with its lovely lady and sweeping tresses! This 14 k gold bar pin is 1 3/4 by 3/8 inch in size. The classic Art Nouveau lady has long, flowing tresses that blow in the wind. It is late 19th or early 20th century and was made by the Krementz company. The round hinge and C clasp suggest the earlier date.

This charming pin is the embodiment of Victorian design. A very stylized butterfly perches on a row of 'gold' ball-shaped dangles. The 'butterfly is centered with a colorless brilliant, and small red imitation rubies are at each side. As was common at the time in the Victorian era, a matching stickpin acts as a safety feature as well as being pretty. The pin is a generous 1 1/2" and is gold filled. There is a maker's mark PC Co. Circa 1880

Here is a very special necklace, combining an Art Nouveau central panel set with a freshwater pearl and a sapphire-blue paste stone with an Etruscan-style fringe. Unmarked, it really looks like gold, however it tests as rolled gold or gold fill (we haven’t tested the fringe for fear of obvious damage). The central panel measures 1-1/4” x 1-1/4” including the dangles. In total, there are 11 graduated dangles or drops, the longest being 3/4” and the shortest 3/8”. The total length is 16...

This intriguing locket depicts a saint, probably St. Peter, holding a key (to the church? To heaven?), with a dove (?) - in the background) on one side. On the other is a photograph of an ecclesiastical-looking person. It contains a touched relic (a bit of ribbon which has been touched to a saint’s bone or something worn by a saint), a tiny metal medal with Mary on one side, saying "Mary conceived without sin” and more Christian imagery on the other, and a wisp of cotton. It would be fascina...

This pretty navette-shaped pin from the Arts & Crafts movement measures 2-1/8 x 7/16”. It has a berry and leaf design, centered by a deep purple amethyst. (Amethysts are thought to bring calmness and clarity to the mind.) It is marked STERLING, and the pin-stem assembly is original. It has a nice patina. In excellent condition, and circa 1900. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks! Shipping, handling, and insurance within the USA included. We do lay-awa...

Here is one of our favorite lockets! The front has a beautiful Egyptian woman or girl – or perhaps goddess - in profile, wearing a headdress, from which a few locks of hair have escaped, and hoop earrings. She is nestled within a crescent moon (symbolic of the female principal, intuition, and new beginnings). The back has a monogram, and inside it has both photo rings, but no celluloid. That can easily be fixed with plastic. Unusually large, it measures 1-5/8”, and weighs .77 ounce. It is ma...

Rubies symbolize love and immortality. Pearls symbolize purity and harmony. What a great combination for these pretty earrings! They test as 10kt gold, although they are marked 375 for 9kt. The hanging flower basket motif is quite charming. They contain a total of 16 rubies and 18 seed pearls. The total length is 1-7/8”, and together they weight 4.3g. As is often the case with older earrings, it’s possible that the wires are replacements. In excellent condition. We believe they are Edwardi...

Here is a small, pretty, gold-filled Victorian or Edwardian fretwork pin. It measures 15/16” x 7/8”. Somewhat worn in places, but still very pretty. Oddly, the watch hanger tests as 10k. Signed SIMMONS and RFS & Co (for the R.F. Simmons Co. of Attleboro, MA). Circa 1900. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks! Here is a pretty Victorian ring with scrollwork on the shank. The center decoration is a horizontal row of seed pearls, with two red stones to the north and south. One stone is badly chipped, and both are abraded. One of them might be a doublet, but otherwise we don’t know what they are, because of the abrasions, so assume paste (glass). It is stamped 10K, and is approximately size 8. It could be sized. Circa 1900. The photos are part of the description so please examine them carefully. Thank...

This striking jewel tests as at least 14kt, so it’s probably 15kt, and from England. It is set with what we are pretty sure is an iolite (hard to test because of the setting), and 4 pear-shaped purple garnets, all foiled, all set within an Etruscan Revival motif of coiling snake-like decorated gold ropes and leaves, with two dangling gold chains. The brooch measures 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 3/4" deep and weighs 8.7g. With the chains, the whole piece measures 2-1/2” long. The pin stem assembly seems t...

This very Victorian pin is gold fill set with two rose-cut red pastes and one cabochon ‘turquoise’. The pin is 1 ¼" wide with a central ball element that is 3/8" in diameter. Applied circles of wire rope ornament a vertical, rectangular bar. A hollow ball dangles from two chains; another chain connects the pin to the stickpin. This device preceded the safety catch to prevent loss of the pin. The C hinge and double C catch are replacements. The pin bears a Maker's mark OB, which ...
