Here is a very sweet pin showing two cupids, a boy and a girl, looking sweet, serene, and loving. Their wings are a pale purple or mauve color, nicely complimenting the 900 silver. The girl is wearing a tiny necklace of roses. The pin measures 1” x 1-3/4” and weighs 5.7g. The clasp might be a replacement, but the rest is all original, and the pin is in excellent antique condition. It is stamped “DEPOSE” (“patent or registration in France”). C 1900. The photos are part of the descript...

Here is a pretty pin by the very collectible Bippart, Griscomb & Osborn company of Newark, NJ (quite the hub of Art Nouveau jewelry c. 1900). It is centered by a turquoise cab, with 2 freshwater pearls on either side, framed by a sinuous ribbon of 14kt gold. It has the BG&O maker’s mark and is stamped 14kt (the marks were hard to photograph). 1-3/4” x 5/16” at the widest point, and it weighs 3.2g. The photos are part of the description. Please examine them carefully. Thanks! We do lay-aw...

Here is a graceful fairy, made in the Art Nouveau style. While new, she still conveys the design ethos of a bygone era. Oddly, during the Nouveau era – roughly 1890–1915 - very few fairy jewels were made, except some very high-end ones by designers such as Lalique. She is made from 18k yellow gold, and her wings are plique a jour (translucent enamel). The colors shade from pink to almost white, and then into green. Her golden hair is accented by a round brilliant cut diamond, and at her feet...

A bit of history! This charming 14 k gold pin sports an enameled flag, initials, thee number five, and the date 1860. The pin is 1 X 1/1/2" in size and is an homage to the Daughters of Liberty, which was formed ~1766, shortly after formation of The Sons of Liberty. This group of brave women boycotted British products and made use of traditional women's skills such as weaving and spinning, to support the cause of liberty.

This elegant ring comes right out of the Art Deco era of Downton Abbey. The diamond is a very sparkly “transitional” cut diamond (a style that cam between old European Cut and modern round brilliant cut). It weighs approximately .63, the color is in the JKL range, and it is just really pretty. We don’t really know how to photograph diamonds, so the photos don’t do it justice. The diamond is set in platinum, and the ring shank is (stamped) 14k gold. There is a maker’s mark which is too ...

Here is a very special necklace, combining an Art Nouveau central panel set with a freshwater pearl and a sapphire-blue paste stone with an Etruscan-style fringe. Unmarked, it really looks like gold, however it tests as rolled gold or gold fill (we didn’t test the fringe for fear of obvious damage). The central panel measures 1-1/4” x 1-1/4” including the dangles. In total, there are 11 graduated dangles or drops, the longest being 3/4” and the shortest 3/8”. The total length is 16” ...

Here is a striking brooch featuring poppies, with curved flowing lines, mounted on a mother-of-pearl oval. Poppies symbolize sleep (think “Wizard of Oz”), rest, and eternal life. The flower is silver plate, and is worn on the high places (we find that those bits actually serve as highlights). The mother of pearl is convex. It measures 1-3/4” x 1-3/8”. The pin assembly is mounted on a base metal plaque, and is of the old style. It rattles a little, but is firmly in place. We believe this ...

Here is a gorgeous contemporary ring, made in the Art Nouveau style. It consists of blue enameled flowers (each centered by a diamond), pink enameled foliage, and trails of tiny diamonds in a band. So pretty! Made from 18k yellow gold (and marked 18k, as well as having a maker's mark), it has a nice weight (8.5g), yet is elegant and graceful. It contains 30 points of a carat in diamonds (just under 1/3 carat). It is size 6, and is NOT resizable. The photos are part of the description; please exa...

Here is a beautiful ring in unmarked but tested 18kt rose gold. The center stone is a ruby cut in an older style, but in really excellent condition. (It’s possible that it’s a replacement stone.) It is surrounded by 8 rose cut and more randomly-cut diamonds which are definitely original, and which might be foiled, but in any case are in a closed-back setting. Typically for the period, a couple of them are chipped or have feathers (inclusions). It is unmarked and has a nice patina. The ring ...

Here is a coral garland (also referred to as “festoon” or “swag”) necklace consisting of 8 coral cabuchons of graduated lengths and sizes. The three longest drops are on rigid bars. The coral is a lovely dark ox-blood red, very hard to capture in photos. Coral was believed to prevent bad luck, and to be an aid to meditation. The length is 15-1/4” (but it would be easy to lengthen it), and the decorated portion is 4-1/4” x 2-1/8” at the longest point. The chain bears the mark for si...

Here is a lovely orchid brooch, made from richly-colored, unmarked but tested, 10kt yellow gold. It has excellent detailing, an old European cut diamond (approximately 1/3 of a carat), and a fan pearl. Weighing in at 2.6g, it measures 1” by about 7/8”, is very dimensional, and very Art Nouveau. It is unmarked, but we believe it was made in Newark, NJ based on its construction. It is in excellent condition, except for a very minor problem with one of the petals - it is detached at its central...

This lovely slide bracelet has 11 (10K & 14k) gold slides, some of which have opals and seed pearls and what looks like coral. The central slide depicts a beautiful Art Nouveau flower. The clasp is gold filled or 9k, the gold paperclip chain tests as 10k, but the round beads are hard to test beyond confirming that they are gold. One slide has a 14k hallmark and a maker’s mark, and one other has a maker’s mark, which looks like an oak leaf. It weighs in at 16.6g. It is about 7-1/2” long, 7...

Here is a sweet ring made from 10kt (marked and tested) yellow gold, with a marquise or navette-shaped ruby flanked by two tiny accent diamonds. (Ruby is the birthstone for July, and is a symbol of love, devotion, and immortality – it just doesn’t get any better than that!) It also has a maker’s mark, which is either “QI” or “OJ”. The 2 diamonds are set in white metal – it’s not possible to tell whether the metal is platinum or silver. It’s size six and could be sized. The ph...

Here is an interesting locket made from white metal. It is engraved on the front in a stylized pattern, and plain on the back. The inside has some scratches in the metal. The photo rings and celluloid are not present. It measures 1-1/4” x 7/8" and the cool paperclip chain is a bit over 22". The back has a few dark marks which might clean up. Generally, a handsome Edwardian or Victorian piece. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks! Shipping, handling & in...

Here is a pretty woman’s face in profile. Her long golden hair trails down to end with a tiny baroque or freshwater pearl. Total length of the face, hair and pearl a little less than 3/4”. This design was based on a drawing by Charles Dana Gibson – a Gibson Girl! (See the final photograph.) It is marked 14k, weighs 1.2g, and is in excellent condition. It doesn’t have a maker’s mark, but we have seen this same stick pin with Alling’s mark. Circa 1910. The photos are part of the descr...
