Here is a really pretty stickpin featuring a bright green tourmaline (said to aid in self confidence and compassion). It is surrounded by a gold Nouveau framework, with a rose below. A little white pearl completes it. It is marked 14k, with an illegible maker’s mark. It measures 1/2” x 5/8" and the whole thing is 2-1/2" long. It weighs 2.9g including the gold-filled clutch. In excellent condition and C. 1900. The Tudor rose is a combination of the red rose of Lancaster and the white r...

This little wooden box is a fantasy delight to hold your most often worn rings and other jewels. It has a leather-look surface embossed with a gryffon rampant on top. The edges and all sides are ornately patterned. It as a lock, but the key has disappeared into the mists of time. There are some minor scuffs on surface. The box is 4¼” x 3½” x 2¼” in size. The age unknown, best guess is midcentury.

Here is a truly lovely festoon or garland necklace out of the Art Nouveau/Edwardian era. It is pictured in Vivienne Becker’s “Art Nouveau Jewelry” on page 185. She describes it as having “festoons of gold chain in the Edwardian manner, set with peridots, and decorated with shaded satin enamel, c. 1900.” It is unmarked, but tests as 14k gold. It is centered by an oval peridot, has several small pearls, and an accent diamond; also a dropper ending with another oval peridot (birthstone fo...

A pretty necklace to liven any outfit! The bright turquoise in this lovely lavalier would be a bright accent for any outfit. The turquoise is an oval cabochon, and it is surrounded by gold 'ribbons' set with seed pearls. The use of 9 ct gold suggests an English origin but it is not hallmarked. It is is signed with the maker's mark SB & SLD in rounded rectangular lozenges. The lavalier comes with a 16" gold filled chain and is 1 1/4" X 1". Circa 1900.

This silver buckle is so perfectly Art Nouveau and so perfectly William B. Kerr. It is 5 1/4" wide and 1 5/8" high and bears these markings: PATENTED JUNE 25, 1901; STERLING; 1564; and the fasces [maker's mark for Kerr]. It is in excellent condition, and the patina of age has been left undisturbed. Circa 1900.

Here is a striking brooch featuring poppies with curved flowing lines, mounted on a mother-of-pearl oval. Poppies symbolize sleep (think Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz”), rest, and eternal life. The flower is silver plate, and is worn on the high places (we find that those bits actually serve as highlights). The mother of pearl is convex. It measures 1-3/4” x 1-3/8”. The pin assembly is mounted on a base metal plaque, and is of the old style. It rattles a little, but is firmly in place. We...

Here is a graceful garland or festoon necklace composed of seed pearls set in 10 kt gold, with two pearls built into the draping chains, and a pearl dangle. The whole thing measures 14-5/8” (we have gold necklace extenders if needed). The decorated section measures 1-1/4” x 3/4” including the dangle. It is in excellent condition. One seed pearl is missing, but it’s really hard to tell - we only noticed when examining it under the microscope. Circa 1910 – it would have been right at hom...

Here is a beautiful ring which is unsigned, but attributed to Bernard Instone, one of the well-known Arts & Crafts era jewelers. He often used leaves-as-prongs in his ring settings, and as was often the way in the A&C movement, he didn’t use costly stones nor gold, so he could keep his prices affordable. This ring is made from sterling silver and set with a blue-green “Swiss lapis” (dyed quartz) which measures approximately 3/4” x 9/16”. It is about size 5-1/2, however due to the cons...

Here is a dainty little pin, measuring 7/8” across. Some of the leaves are enameled in shades of green, yellow and orange, alternating with leaves set with 3 seed pearls each. (The colors make it perfect for Spring or Autumn!) It centers another seed pearl. The findings are original, with a neat security clasp. On the clasp is a maker’s mark consisting of an arrow with a circle at the end, most likely for Robert Klitz, of New York. No hallmarks, but it tests for 14k gold. Circa 1900. The ph...

This beautiful Art Nouveau dragon doesn't hoard treasure--he is a treasure! The pin is 18 k gold (tested). The wings are edged in 7 rose-cut diamonds each and his tail is tipped with more rose-cut diamonds. He holds an Old English cut diamond in his beak. The pin is 1 3/8” X 1 ¼”. It has an early-style safety catch. The hinge is a replacement. There are no marks. Circa 1900.

Here is a simple and elegant stickpin with a stylized flower design, based on a Japanese family crest. It is marked “k20” on the back, and tests as a very strong 20kt. The flower head measures 1/2 x 7/8”, and the whole pin is 2-1/2” long. It weighs 2.4g. The pin is a bit bent, not surprisingly given the high gold content (please see photos), and course that can’t be seen when it’s worn. Otherwise in excellent condition. Circa 1900. Japanese art had a huge influence on the Art Nouveau...

Here is a classy brooch combining the styles of Edwardian and Art Nouveau jewelry, and is remarkably similar to a piece by Whiteside & Blank that we’ve seen with the W&B maker’s mark; however it is unsigned (not unusual for the time). The pin consists of a gold framework enameled in palest green, in a formal Edwardian key pattern. In the middle is a sprig of leaves with a pearl berry; the stem twines around the framework in the Nouveau style. An interesting juxtaposition. There are 3 additi...

This glorious Victorian brooch is in the shape of a “love knot,” and was most likely a wedding gift to a bride – but it would be an amazing gift on at any time! Or simply an excellent addition to your collection. It consists of 50 old-cut diamonds, 5 rubies, and 3 rosy-colored pearls, all mounted on silver-topped rose gold. Weighing in at 5.7g, it measures 1-3/4” x 7/8”. In excellent antique condition, and so beautiful! The photos are part of the description; please examine them care...

Here is a beautiful jewel featuring a circle of 6 ginkgo leaves radiating out from a diamond center, with rows of seed pearls in between. The enamel is lovely, detailed, and subtle. It is both a pendant and a brooch. The bale is on a swivel; it folds down neatly so that it’s invisible when worn as a brooch. Unmarked but tested 14k rose gold, about 33 pearls, and an approximately .02 full cut old diamond, very slightly chipped (not visible without magnification). The piece measures 1-1/16” in...

If this gorgeous ring fit me, I'd be keeping it. (Of course it could be resized. Hmmm. ☺) The design is surprisingly modern but it is genuinely pre 1900. Two faceted rubies are set off by three seed pearls, with each gem surrounded by a square bezel. It has English hallmarks for Chester [England], 1865-6, and 15 carat gold, as well as a maker's mark of BHJ. The ring is a size 7.

This lovely (unmarked but tested) 10kt gold jewel is from the early 1800s (around Jane Austen's time), when cannetille work was the vogue: very fine gold wires twisted into thin ropes and then formed into rosettes and other shapes. The amethyst has a lovely delicate shade of purple, and weighs approximately 2.5 carats – it’s very deep. (Amethysts are said to bring calm, and help banish headaches.) The whole lavalier, including the bale, measures 1-1/2 x 9/16”. Two of the seed pearls are mi...
