Here is a gorgeous contemporary ring, made in the Art Nouveau style. It consists of blue enameled flowers (each centered by a diamond), pink enameled foliage, and trails of tiny diamonds in a band. So pretty! Made from 18k yellow gold (and marked 18k, as well as having a maker's mark), it has a nice weight (8.5g), yet is elegant and graceful. It contains 30 points of a carat in diamonds (just under 1/3 carat). It is size 6, and is NOT resizable. The photos are part of the description; please exa...

Here is a stick pin made in the shape of an arrow head. This gorgeous piece features a sparkly cognac-colored diamond of approximately 10 points (a tenth of a carat), but it looks bigger. Above and below the diamond are 2 lovely (cultured?) golden pearls. It weighs 2.3g and is of unmarked but tested 14k yellow gold, which has been hammered to enhance the “arrow head” look – a great reminder that the Arts and Crafts era overlapped the Wild Wild West! It measures 1/2” x 7/16” x 2-1/2" lo...

Here is a fantastic bracelet by Schaverien & Eastmead of Birmingham, England. It is 7” long and 3/8” wide at the widest points, with 5 enameled panels which shade from dark green to pale green to magenta and back again. In between each panel is a round blister pearl. Each connecting link has a hard-to-read mark, probably a lion, also the marks for Birmingham, 1909, and “S&E”. The clasp has a safety chain. One enamel panel has a small black spot, and one has a tiny chip in the enamel, bar...

Here is a lovely and nicely detailed garland necklace featuring a heart with wings, symbolic of love and openness. The heart has green enamel with orange highlights, and it and the wings are set with seed pearls. Above are gold curlicues, and below is a (tested) diamond dropper. It’s got a faint 10k mark on the back, but tests as 14k (this is not uncommon). The spring ring is marked Gold Filled, but the chain tests for 14k, so it’s probably a replacement. The central design elements measure ...

Here is a sterling silver buckle with a floral motif set off by plique a jour (translucent) enamel. These buckles with plique are quite unusual. The plique is red, two shades of blue, and green. It is signed with a “JK” above another “JK” in a box. It has marks for London, 1886, and a duty mark. Measuring 3-1/8” x 2-1/4", it weighs 32.7g or 1.16 oz. It is in very good condition. The plique has a few hairlines and some bubbles, which is normal. The red and blue plique is dark, so it’s...

This plique a jour pendant is centered with an oval opal and accented with eight colorless brilliants and a fresh water pearl dropper. The translucent enamel is an unusual and lovely blue in color. Plique a jour, that unusual, difficult, and beautiful technique, dates from the 15th century. It was used by Cellini, then revived in the late 1800s in France. The metal frame in this lovely piece is 900 silver, suggesting that the piece is most likely German or Austrian in origin. Circa 1900.

This Edwardian/Art Nouveau necklace would be perfect for a bride … or anyone, really, at any time! It measures 1-1/4” at the widest point, and from the top-most diamond to the bottom of the dropper it is 2-1/4”. The dropper is a dogtooth pearl, 11/16” long, which has a collar of gold around it, set with 3 diamonds, and swirls of gold holding 4 more little pearls. The “wow” factor is terrific! Here is a truly beautiful garland or swag necklace out of the Art Nouveau/Edwardian era. It is pictured in Vivienne Becker’s “Art Nouveau Jewelry” on page 185. She describes it as having “festoons of gold chain in the Edwardian manner, set with peridots, and decorated with shaded satin enamel, c. 1900.” It is unmarked, but tests as 14k gold. It is centered by an oval peridot, has several small pearls, and an accent diamond; also a dropper ending with another oval peridot (birthstone fo...

The La Pierre Manufacturing Company started in the mid-late 1800s (there are conflicting reports of 1855 to 1895) in Newark NJ where much Art Nouveau sterling silver jewelry and novelties were made. The company later moved to Wallingford, CT. It has been a division of International Silver since 1929. History lesson over! This pin is a sassy Art Nouveau sprite made of sterling silver repousse. It bears the maker's mark for La Pierre Mfg. Co. The detail in the face and wings is impeccable. ...

Here is a pretty ring, which comes out of the era when Edwardian styles were sliding into Art Deco. It is marked “925” for sterling silver, and set with a ruby, birthstone for those born in July. Rubies have been called “the queen of stones and the stone of kings.” The ring has the mellow patina of age, and is size 6. It could be sized. Here is a very classic brooch, in the style of Lucien Gautrait, featuring a ribbon and flower motif, with a ring of white enamel in the center. The pearl on the dangle may be a replacement (as so many are). The brooch is marked with the French eagle for 18k gold and partial owl marks with “73”, indicating a piece that was imported into France post 1893 and assayed in the town of Rouen. There is also what looks like a blurry French maker’s mark, so the marks are confusing. It measures 1-1/2...
