The cameo and mounting are 3/8" in height; overall length of the pin is 2 5/8". A clutch will be supplied with the pin.

Here is a beautiful ring which is unsigned, but attributed to Bernard Instone, one of the well-known Arts & Crafts era jewelers. He often used leaves-as-prongs in his ring settings, and as was often the way in the A&C movement, he didn’t use costly stones nor gold, so he could keep his prices affordable. This ring is made from sterling silver and set with a blue-green “Swiss lapis” (dyed quartz) which measures approximately 3/4” x 9/16”. The size is 5-1/2, however due to the construct...

This beautiful stickpin is made of 14 k white gold and is set with an unidentified colorless gemstone...not diamond or one of the common substitutes for diamond. Not glass or plastic--it's a real stone. Also a real mystery. Whatever it is, it's a perfect complement to the setting. Overall length is 2 3/8" and it dates from the early 1900s.

Here is a Victorian brooch with cross, anchor, and heart, the symbols for faith, hope and charity, respectively. It has nice detail work in the metal. Unmarked, but it is made of a layer of gold on top of what looks like copper. The center of the heart is set with a (faux?) seed pearl, and the cross is set with 11 tiny turquoise-colored cabs – they are too tiny for a definite ID. It measures 1-3/16 x 7/8". The gold shows wear here and there, and it has a nice patina. Overall it is in very good...

Here is a beautiful ring, in rose gold which tests as 18k. The center stone is a ruby cut in an older style, but in excellent condition. (It’s possible that it’s a replacement stone.) It is surrounded by 8 rose cut and more randomly-cut diamonds which are definitely original, and which might be foiled, but in any case are in a closed-back setting. Typically for the period, a couple of them are chipped or have feathers. It is unmarked and has a nice patina. The ring is a size 8-1/4, and coul...

Here is an English jewel which reflects the aesthetics of fin de siècle France and Russia, with its pink topazes and demantoid garnets. The fairly large oval topazes are surrounded by swirls of seed-pearl-set gold, and set off by 4 bright green demantoid garnets, 2 of which are set into the fine chains which connect the top section to the bottom; of the other 2, the top one is a modified pear shape, the other is oval. It measures 2” long by 1-1/8” across at the widest point, and weighs 5.4g...

This pretty lavaliere is made of 10 k gold with an especially rich color. The oval gem is actually an amethyst look-alike--a garnet/glass doublet*and the dropper is a fresh water pearl. The pendant is 1 1/4" x 5/8" in size and is on a 16" gold filled chain. Circa 1900. *Check out the blog accompanying item #1416939 for more about garnet/glass doublets.

Here is a coral garland (also referred to as “festoon” or “swag”) necklace consisting of 8 coral cabuchons of graduated lengths and sizes. The three longest drops are on rigid bars. The coral is a lovely dark ox-blood red, very hard to capture in photos. Coral was believed to prevent bad luck, and to be an aid to meditation. The length is 15-1/4” (but it would be easy to lengthen it), and the decorated portion is 4-1/4” x 2-1/8” at the longest point. The chain bears the mark for si...

This lovely orchid was made from a richly-colored, unmarked but tested, 10kt yellow gold. It has excellent details, an old European cut diamond (approximately 1/3 of a carat), and a fan pearl. Weighing in at 2.6g, it measures 1” by about 7/8”, is very dimensional, and very Art Nouveau. It is unmarked, but we believe it was made in Newark, NJ based on its construction. It is in excellent condition, except for a very minor problem with one of the petals - it is detached at its central anchor p...

Swirls and Dangles A lovely Victorian pin with coral beads and branch in a gold-filled setting. The three dangles, with beads and a small coral branch give movement and liveliness when it's worn. The whiplash design of the mounting suggests that it has an Art Nouveau influence. Circa 1885.

This lovely (unmarked but tested) 10kt gold jewel is from the early 1800s (around Jane Austen's time), when cannetille work was the vogue: very fine gold wires twisted into thin ropes and then formed into rosettes and other shapes. The amethyst has a lovely delicate shade of purple, and weighs approximately 2.5 carats – it’s very deep. (Amethysts are said to bring calm, and help banish headaches.) The bale is decorated very nicely, in keeping with the rest of the piece. The whole lavalier, i...

This is a classic Victorian pin/pendant in a pinwheel design, with 9 lovely bright dark purple garnet and glass doublets (from the period when amethysts were quite rare and expensive, so they made these doublets out of comparatively inexpensive material), and lots of seed pearls. It has both a pin stem assembly for use as a brooch, and a jump ring so it can be worn as a necklace. It is stamped 10k on the clasp. There is a small break in the gold framework, which isn’t noticeable without magnif...

Here is one of our favorite lavaliers! It is quintessential Art Nouveau, having a graceful and elegant shape, with a flower and the classic whiplash motif. The central amethyst weighs approximately 1/2 carat, and it is highlighted by 28 seed pearls. Feng Shui practitioners believe amethysts aid in purification, and give access to a higher plane of energy. It tests as 14k, and is that lovely subtle old rose gold color. It weighs 3.3g and measures 1” x 1” at the widest points. Chain not inclu...
