Here is a very pretty little pendant, centering a blue sapphire cabochon within an Art Nouveau framework of 14kt yellow gold. Above is a pearl. It is signed by the well known Whiteside & Blank company and stamped 14. When we found it, it was a ring that had been made from a stickpin, so we felt free to remake it into a necklace, since as a ring it wasn’t very practical. It measures just under 1 inch from the top of the bail by 1/2” at the widest point. We have 14kt gold chains for sale, shou...

Here is a pendant featuring a large amethyst, measuring about 10mm across. It is set in a framework of bright gold leaves that brings to mind the Arts and Crafts era, with another leaf on the bale, and a fringe of tiny seed pearls dangling below – sweet! From the top of the bale to the bottom of the fringe it measures 1-1/2”, and from side to side it is 3/4” at the widest points. It is marked and tested 14k gold and weighs 1.8g. We believe it was made during the 1960s, but we’re not sur...

Here is a pretty ring with a trilliant or triangular cut synthetic alexandrite and 2 full-cut diamond accent stones. The stone is steely blue in daylight, and a pretty purple in incandescent light, with teal blue flashes; it measures 1/4” per side. Size 7-3/4, and it could be re-sized. It is marked 10k and is in excellent condition – we believe it was never worn. Circa 2000. The photos are part of the description; please examine carefully. Thanks! We do lay-away. This pretty lady stick pin is most likely brass with a gold wash, which is worn. Her hair ends in a row of sparkly stones; I’m not sure what they are, but quite likely they are marcasites (one glued in crookedly). Head and stones measure 5/8” x 3/8”, total length is 2-9/16”. Circa 1920s.

Here is an engaging portrait in silver, of a wind-swept youthful person in a cloak and hood. It’s very detailed and just lovely. We think it’s a boy (very unusual in jewelry), as the hair seems to be quite short under the hood. The hood itself looks like a cap made from a flower, as seen on fairies in Victorian children’s books. It measures 1-1/8” wide, is hollow, and is marked “STERLING TOP GERMAN SILVER BACK”. The (sterling) front is in very good condition. German silver is white ...

Here is a classy brooch combining the styles of Edwardian and Art Nouveau jewelry, and is remarkably similar to a piece by Whiteside & Blank that we’ve seen with the W&B maker’s mark; however it is unsigned (not unusual for the time). The pin consists of a gold framework enameled in palest green, in a formal Edwardian key pattern. In the middle is a sprig of leaves with a pearl berry; the stem twines around the framework in the Nouveau style. An interesting juxtaposition. There are 3 additi...

This lovely sterling brush has a marquise-shaped porcelain insert with a blue and white Dutch windmill scene. It was manufactured by the Alvin Manufacturing Company of Providence, Rhode Island. This company, currently a division of Gorham, was founded in 1886 and was known for its sterling flatware, hollow ware, toilet ware, and novelties. The brush bears two marks for the company along with STERLING, 250 C, and Pat app for Pre 1920

Here is a striking lavalier which is centered by a light purple amethyst (traditionally good for maintaining clarity of mind), framed by rose gold panels which are both Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts in style. It has a pearl dangle with good luster which is interestingly off-round. Measuring 1-5/8” including the pearl but not the jump ring, by 7/8”. The amethyst measures 3/8” x 1/4”. It is marked “9ct” but tests as 10k (this is not unusual). It weighs 2.1g and is in excellent antique ...

Here is a beautifully detailed iris, centered by a tiny single cut diamond. Irises symbolize faith, hope, wisdom and courage – what better way to enhance your lapel? Unmarked, the yellow gold tests as 10k. It measures 2-1/2" long. The iris is 7/8” x 1/2”, and it weighs 1.1g. In excellent condition and circa 1900. Here is a graceful garland or festoon necklace composed of seed pearls set in 10 kt gold, with two pearls built into the draping chains, and a pearl dangle. The whole thing measures 14-5/8” (we have gold necklace extenders if needed). The decorated section measures 1-1/4” x 1/4” including the dangle. It is in excellent condition. One seed pearl is missing, but it’s really hard to tell - we only noticed when examining it under the microscope. Circa 1910 – it would have been right at hom...

Here is a pair of identical gold pins made from a richly colored yellow gold. They would be an excellent addition to your collection of Victorian jewelry! Measuring 1-1/4” x 1/4”, they say “BEBE” on the front. They test as 9k, weigh 3.0 g, and the findings are signed “VID”. There are tiny flowers and other floral designs at the edges. It looks like the safety-pin findings are old replacements. One of them has 2 brownish stains on the back, otherwise they are in excellent condition. T...

The three-leafed clover isn't unusual, but four-leafed ones occur once in every 10,000. The fourth leaf stands for LUCK. Here's a lovely and unusual four-leafed clover pin to enhance your jacket and bring good luck all year long. This charming pin has leaves of fossil ivory surrounded by gold nuggets. It is 1" x 1", and is marked NATIVE GOLD NUGGETS. Circa 1890.

This 9kt yellow gold necklace is centered by a dark red garnet, probably a spessartite. Garnets are the birthstone for January, and were traditionally thought to keep travelers safe. The dangle is set with a blister pearl of a mellow off-white color. There are 3 tiny seed pearls in the main setting. It is hallmarked “9ct”, and the attached chain is marked “375 9k.” The pendant measures 1-5/16" x 7/8", and the total length of the chain with the pendant is 16-3/4". The piece is in very goo...

Amethyst? No. Glass. Gold? No. Gold fill. Do those facts mean this lavalier is any less lovely? No! This charming lavalier is both antique and eye-catching. The stone is amethyst-colored glass and the metal is gold-fill. The lavalier is not marked, but the 20" gold-filled chain bears the maker's mark for Bates & Bacon. The lavalier is 1 1/8 X 3/4", not including the fresh-water pearl dropper. Circa 1900.

Here is a splendid locket depicting some sort of creature: zephyr? Lion? Or some other mythological critter? He has a diamond in his mouth, and his eyes are red stones (too small to ID). Measuring 1-1/8”, weighing 9.5g, and marked 10k, he is set up for 2 photographs with both celluloid and photo rings. He's a somewhat rosy gold (NOTE that it was really hard to capture the color of the gold in the photographs), and has the maker’s mark for Kroll. In excellent condition and circa 1900. Chain n...

Here is a lovely and beautifully detailed garland necklace featuring a heart with wings, symbolic of love and openness. The heart has green enamel with orange highlights, and it and the wings are set with seed pearls. Above are gold curlicues, and below is a (tested) diamond dropper. It’s got a faint 10k mark on the back, but tests as 14k (this is not unusual). The spring ring is marked Gold Filled, but the chain tests for 14k, so it’s probably a replacement. This heavily engraved silver pin is from the estate of Helen Aman, who escaped from the Bolshevik Revolution to (eventually) settle in California. It was one of the jewels from her childhood. It consists of a bell (with a clapper – but it doesn’t actually chime) dangling from an angled bar. Marked 84 for 875 silver, it also has a partial city mark, which we believe is for Moscow. It measures 1-3/8” x 7/8", and is in excellent antique condition, with a nice patina. (For more of Helen’s st...
