This fascinating locket depicts a saint, probably St. Peter, holding a key (to the church? To heaven?), with a dove in the background. On the other side is a photograph of an ecclesiastical-looking person. It contains a touched relic (a bit of ribbon which has been touched to a saint’s bone or something worn by a saint), a tiny metal medal with Mary on one side, saying "Mary conceived without sin” and more Christian imagery on the other, and a wisp of cotton. It would be fascinating to know ...

Here is a terrific ring centered by a navette-shaped lapis lazuli (traditionally a stone of royalty, also signifying truth and inner strength), with specks of pyrite for a bit of sparkle. The stone measures 3/4” N to S, and 1/4” E to W. The setting is made of 14kt yellow gold, formed into graceful curlicues. It is stamped 14k, and also has a maker’s mark, which appears to be “KBN” and also a dot in a circle. The size is between 5-1/4 and 5-1/2, and it weighs 5.5g. Based on an old desig...

This pretty lady stick pin is most likely brass with a gold wash, which is worn. Her hair ends in a row of sparkly stones; I’m not sure what they are, but quite likely they are marcasites (one glued in crookedly). Head and stones measure 5/8” x 3/8”, total length is 2-9/16”. Circa 1920s.

These gorgeous cuff links are composed of slightly oval rock crystals carved with a seashell-like pattern, intersected by rows of calibre-cut blue sapphires. 18k (tested) white gold backs and links are marked with what appears to be European hallmarks – they are too blurry to decipher beyond that. The rock crystals measure 5/8” x 9/16”, and together they weigh 7.2g. The photos are part of the description; please examine carefully. Thanks! Shipping, handling & insurance within the USA incl...

Here is a lovely pendant/pin with a stylized floral motif using enamel which shades from green-to-yellow in a design reminiscent of a French fleur-de-lis. It is centered by a small diamond (approx. 5 points), and has a pearl-set modified starburst accenting the enameled “petals.” In 14k rose gold, it measures 1” in diameter at the widest point. The bale folds down nicely when it’s worn as a brooch. We had the enamel touched up a little bit at the edges, so it is now in excellent conditio...

Here is a pair of identical gold pins made from a richly colored yellow gold. They would be an excellent addition to your collection of Victorian jewelry! Measuring 1-1/4” x 1/4”, they say “BEBE” on the front. They test as 9k, weigh 3.0 g, and the findings are signed “VID”. There are tiny flowers and other floral designs at the edges. It looks like the safety-pin findings are old replacements. One of them has 2 brownish stains on the back, otherwise they are in excellent condition. T...

Here is a fantastic necklace, in the style of Murrle, Bennett and other Arts & Crafts designers of high renown. It is unsigned, which is not unusual. It features a central silver panel with a big labradorite cab, 3/4” x 9/16”. The whole panel with dangles measures 13/16” x 1-7/8”. The wearable length is 24”, and there are 20” worth of labradorite beads, most having the distinctive and beautiful blue flash for which that stone is known. The clasp has a very pretty flower and leaf desi...

Here is an elegant stick pin featuring an amethyst (birthstone for February) measuring 7/16” x 5/16", in a rounded-off diamond-shaped setting made from a warm-hued 14kt gold (marked and tested). The setting measures 9/16” x 1/2” and the whole thing is 2-11/16” long and weighs 2.7g. Circa 1900. In excellent condition. AMETHYSTS are thought to be spiritual stones, aiding in meditation; also good for curing headaches. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Th...

Here is a beautiful piece made from emerald-green glass and gold-toned metal. It is unmarked, but we were told by a glass specialist that it is from England. It’s approximately 5” tall and 2-3/8” across the bottom. The gold-toned lid has cut-outs in the shape of stars – charming! It is in excellent condition, and circa 1900. The photos are part of the description, so please examine them carefully. Thanks! We do lay-away. Shipping, handling & insurance within the USA included.

Here is a beautiful pin which is an interesting mixture of the Art Nouveau and Victorian styles. The Victorians loved to use real insects, especially these green beetles, in jewelry. The Nouveau jewelers loved naturalistic motifs, but generally didn’t use the insect itself – yet the design of the pin is very Nouveau. Marked 14k, the pale gold setting contrasts nicely with the deep green of the beetle. The pin stem assembly is original. The clasp has a nice safety lever; it is bent a tiny bit...

Beautiful, antique, and signed by a famous maker--can it get any better? This lovely turn-of-the-century pendant is centered with a 12 x 30 mm oval citrine surrounded by a pale blue enameled band studded with marcasites. Enameled bows on each side and a fresh water pearl dropper finish the design. The metal is 935 silver (higher silver content than sterling) and the pendant is signed with the dragonfly mark for Meyle & Mayer. The firm of Meyle & Mayer is well-known for Jugenstil, Art No...

This striking jewel tests as a very strong 14kt, so it’s probably 15kt, and from England. It is set with what we are pretty sure is an iolite (hard to test because of the setting), and 4 pear-shaped purple garnets, all foiled, all set within an Etruscan Revival motif of coiling snake-like decorated gold ropes and leaves, with two dangling gold chains. The brooch measures 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 3/4" deep and weighs 8.7g. With the chains, the whole piece measures 2-1/2” long. The pin stem assembly se...

Here is a show-stopping charm bracelet! It has 20 charms. 11 are karat gold, the others are gold fill except (of course) the coral elephant and the silver enameled donkey. Check out the photos – there is a wild variety, from tools to musical instruments, to a gun (a pistol?). There are a few rings where there apparently used to be charms – perfect places to add your own. The charms are hung on a modified paperclip chain marked 14k gold. 6 charms are articulated. A few of the charms have some...

Gentlemen: this terrific lion is just waiting to take his place on your tie or lapel! Made from unmarked but tested 14kt yellow gold, with tiny red stones for eyes, and a (cultured?) pearl in his jaws, he measures 7/16” x 1/2”. The findings are either a low-carat gold or gold filled. The lion himself weighs 1.5g, and the total weight is 4.1g. He probably began life as a stickpin, circa 1900, and is in excellent condition. Here is a great pair of white gold-fronted double “Sunrise” cuff links. Each end is marked WHITE GOLD FRONT BELAIS 14K; TALON GRIP TRADEMARK, and is octagonal, measuring 5/8” x 7/16”, with rigid connectors that are hinged at one end. We don’t know what the connecting “talon grips” are made from. The Belais Brothers were among the first to develop a formula for white gold (their patent was for 1917). Many feel they were the premier workers in white gold, and their jewels are collect...
