This wonderful Georgian ring could have been worn by one of Jane Austen’s more upper-crust characters! It features a rose-cut diamond (pointed top instead of flat), set in 14kt gold with decorations in black enamel on the shank, which are still in excellent condition. Diamond is the birthstone for April. The ring is approximately a size 5. It isn’t possible to estimate the weight of set rose cut diamonds; it is in the I range for clarity – normal for its era. Unmarked, it is pre-1836 (Miss...

Here is a sweet ring made from 10kt (marked and tested) yellow gold, with a marquise or navette-shaped ruby flanked by two tiny accent diamonds. (Ruby is the birthstone for July, and is a symbol of love, devotion, and immortality – it just doesn’t get any better than that!) It also has a maker’s mark, which is either “QI” or “OJ”. The 2 diamonds are set in white metal – it’s not possible to tell whether the metal is platinum or silver. It’s size six and could be sized. The ph...

Unmarked but tested 14k rose gold, about 33 pearls, and an approximately .02 full cut old diamond, very slightly chipped. It measures 1-1/16” in diameter and weighs 5.7g. The enamel might be ...

It is set with 11 turquoises (birthstone for December, believed to be good for healing and focus) and one seed pearl. The rose gold tests as 14kt. This sterling silver and enamel pendant comes out of the Arts & Crafts movement, spearheaded by William Morris, John Ruskin, et al. The enamel colors are associated with the women’s suffrage movement in the UK: green (Give), white (Women the), and violet (Vote)– or at least, that’s the story! The free-standing wire work (so unusual!) interlaces around the body of the piece, and holds an oval of mother-of-pearl in place. Also unusual is the use of brown enamel. There is a little bit of enam...

Decorated with a floral motif, it’s classically beautiful. Geo. W. Shiebler & Co. was in business under that name from 1876 until almost 1915. The design of this piece is delightful and almost over the top! It is an Egyptian Revival piece, centering Hathor (goddess of dance, music, and fertility – we love her!). She is wearing big earrings, and her usual headdress. She seems to have a flower in her hair, and in front of her there is greenery tied by a ribbon with a bow (we can’t tell if it’s laurel or mistletoe). The ink pots (glass inserts are not present) have winged hearts on them, and are surmounted by crescent moons – symb...
