During the Victorian era, every young gentleman had to make his Grand Tour, picking up souvenirs along the way. Lava cameos (actually made from a very fine-textured limestone) made into jewelry were highly sought after. This Victorian lava cameo stickpin is 14 k gold. The cameo and mounting are 3/8" in height; overall length of the pin is 2 5/8". A clutch will be supplied with the pin.

Here is a classic Art Nouveau stick pin centered by an amethyst, birthstone for February. Back in the day, amethysts were thought to prevent drunkenness, as well as being a cure for headaches (is there a theme here?). There is a seed pearl above and one below, all mounted in a (marked and tested) 14k “whiplash” frame (the whiplash motif was very popular with Nouveau artists). Measuring 1/2” x 2-1/4" long, it weighs 1.5g. There is an illegible maker’s mark...

This Egyptian Revival watch pin is 14k gold set with an oval opal. It dates from ~1880. The original catch has been replaced with a more modern safety catch. The pin is 1 1/2" wide by 5/8" high.

This brooch combines the styles of Edwardian and Art Nouveau jewelry, and is remarkably similar to a couple of pieces by Whiteside & Blank that we’ve seen with the W&B maker’s mark; however it is unsigned (not unusual for the time). The pin consists of a framework enameled in palest green (almost white), in a formal Edwardian key pattern. In the middle is a sprig of leaves with a pearl berry; the stem twines around the framework in the Nouveau style. An interesting juxtaposition...

Here is a pretty ring, which comes out of the era when Edwardian styles were sliding into Art Deco. It is marked “925” for sterling silver, and set with a ruby, birthstone for those born in July. Rubies have been called “the queen of stones and the stone of kings.” The ring has the mellow patina of age, and is size 6. It could be sized. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks! Shipping, handling & insurance within the USA included. We do lay-away.

Here is a pretty plique a jour pin in the shape of a stylized moth, German or Austrian in origin. The body has 4 colorless paste stones, and there is an emerald green paste stone in the tail. The plique shades from green to white to peach. 1-1/2” by 3/4”, and stamped “800” on the back. It is in excellent antique condition and circa 1900. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks! Shipping, handling & insurance within the USA included. We do lay-away.

This pretty lady stick pin is most likely brass with a gold wash, which is worn. Her hair ends in a row of sparkly stones; I’m not sure what they are, but quite likely they are marcasites (one glued in crookedly). Head and stones measure 5/8” x 3/8”, total length is 2-9/16”. Circa 1920s.

Dainty and lovely, this enamel, pearl, and sapphire Art Nouveau stickpin is 14k gold and just plain beautiful. The enamel shades from pink to green, and it is set with seed pearls and a faceted sapphire. The head of the pin is 1/2" and the pin itself 2" in length. Comes with a clutch to protect the end. [No matter how lovely the stickpin, it's bad if you stab yourself!] Circa 1900.

Here is a very sweet ring, consisting of a flower made of 6 pearls (1 of which is a replacement), centered by a tiny rose cut diamond. There is a compartment underneath, perhaps for storing a tiny lock of hair, but the glass is gone. The ring tests as a very strong 14k, so it is probably 15k (and therefore English). There is cobalt blue enameling on the shoulders, which we’ve had touched up – this ring was obviously very well loved, and it’s still beautiful! Size 6. Early Victorian...

Here is a lovely and nicely detailed garland necklace featuring a heart with wings, symbolic of love and openness. The heart has green enamel with orange highlights, and it and the wings are set with seed pearls. Above are gold curlicues, and below is a (tested) diamond dropper. It’s got a faint 10k mark on the back, but tests as 14k (this is not uncommon). The spring ring is marked Gold Filled, but the chain tests for 14k, so it’s probably a replacement...

Here is a very special necklace, combining an Art Nouveau central panel set with a freshwater pearl and a sapphire-blue paste stone with an Etruscan-style fringe. Unmarked, it really looks like gold, however it tests as rolled gold or gold fill (we haven’t tested the fringe for fear of obvious damage). The central panel measures 1-1/4” x 1-1/4” including the dangles. In total, there are 11 graduated dangles or drops, the longest being 3/4” and the shortest 3/8”...

Here is a petit pendant made by Jean-Baptiste-Emile Dropsy, one of the famous French medalists. The design was usually made out of a heavy gold plate, but this one is 18kt rosy gold, unmarked but tested. Signed by Dropsy on the front, as is usual with French medals, it measures 1/2” in diameter (with the jump ring, 7/8”), and weighs 1.5g. It could be worn as a pendant or a very classy charm. In excellent condition, showing a gentle patina, and circa 1900...

A charming little pin. The fleur d'lis is a stylized lily or iris that was much used in heraldry and as a symbol of royalty (among others) since ancient times. This enchanting little pin is silver pavé-set with turquoise cabochons and is so very Victorian in style. It dates from 1870-1880.

Beautiful, antique, and signed by a famous maker--can it get any better? This lovely turn-of-the-century pendant is centered with a 12 x 30 mm oval citrine surrounded by a pale blue enameled band studded with marcasites. Enameled bows on each side and a fresh water pearl dropper finish the design. The metal is 935 silver (higher silver content than sterling) and the pendant is signed with the dragonfly mark for Meyle & Mayer...

Here is a striking Jugendstil (Germany’s Arts & Crafts era) pendant which is enameled in white and purple. It is made from 900 silver (sterling is 925), and centered by a lovely oval amethyst which is flanked above and below by tiny seed pearls. There is a pearl dangle (which we added, as the original was missing) below an arc of milgrained metal. It measures 1-1/2” x 7/8” and weighs 4.7g...

Here is one of our very favorite rings. It would make a great engagement ring for a woman who wants something a bit different. Also great for Christmas, St. Patrick’s, or really any other time! The central diamond is approximately 20 points (1/5 of a carat, but looks bigger), and is set in platinum. The rest of the setting is made of unmarked but tested 14k gold of a lovely rich yellow. There are 4 tiny rubies and 3 tiny green demantoid garnets...

The popularity of all things Italian amounted to mania in the Victorian England of 1860-1880. Especially favored were objects of Etruscan design. This locket is gold fill, decorated with a dimensional Etruscan Revival motif that is punctuated with a pearl. The locket is 1 ½" long and is unmarked.

The Charles Horner company of Halifax was renowned for beautiful silver and enamel Arts & Crafts jewelry. This moth pin is sterling silver with blue and turquoise enamel and is 1 3/4" wide. It is fully hallmarked, for Chester, England, 1908, and carries the Charles Horner maker's mark.
