Although this jewel is English, it reflects the aesthetics of fin de siècle Russia, with its pink topazes and demantoid garnets. The fairly large topazes are surrounded by swirls of seed-pearl-set gold, and set off by 4 bright green demantoid garnets, 2 of which are set into the fine chains which connect the top section to the bottom; of the other 2, the top one is a modified pear shape, the other oval. It measures 2” long by 1-1/8” across at the widest point, and weighs 5.4g...

Worn but pretty lady stick pin. I believe her to be brass with a gold wash, which is largely gone. Her hair ends in a row of sparkly stones; I’m not sure what they are, and one of them was glued in crookedly. Head and stones measure 5/8” x 3/8”, total length is 2-9/16”. Circa 1920s. NOTE that we will only accept a check for this item. Thanks.

Here is a splendid locket depicting some sort of critter: zephyr? Lion? Some other mythological beast? He has a diamond in his mouth, and his eyes are red stones. Measuring 1-1/8”, weighing 9.5g, and marked 10k, he is set up for 2 photographs with both celluloid and photo rings. He's a somewhat rosy gold (NOTE that it is really hard to capture the color of the gold in photographs), has the maker’s mark for Kroll. In excellent condition and Circa 1900...

This pretty brooch is very wearable. Plique a jour jewels are very hard to come by these days – they are somewhat fragile, rare, and we believe that many of them are now in private collections. This lovely maple leaf pin seems to be missing one leaf. However, someone filled the space with a pretty drop made of green agate, so the loss is hardly noticeable. Along the main vein of each leaf and the stem are paste accent stones, and it is centered by a faux pearl...

Here is a lovely watch pin made of marked and tested 14k gold, many seed pearls, and 2 accent diamonds. It has a leaves-and-vine motif, with 2 pretty little flowers with heart-shaped petals, and it’s just beautiful. It measures 1-1/8 x 1-1/4" and weighs in at 6.9g. One seed pearl was missing, so we had it replaced. The pin stem assembly is original. It could be cleaned a little, but it looks great as is. In excellent condition, and circa 1910...

Marked and tested as sterling silver, this pretty pin has 5 paste stones that were glued in. Measuring 1-3/4” x 1/2" and weighing 4.4 g, it is in excellent condition. We believe it is from the 1980s. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks! Shipping, handling & insurance within the USA included.

For the seeker of something out of the ordinary! These vintage screw-back earrings are unmarked and are a (relatively) modern take on the ancient Green Man. For those who like the unusual. Each earring is ~1" X 1". Age unknown, most probably 1940-1950s.

Here is a very Victorian gold quartz (also called “gold-in-quartz” and “gold-bearing quartz”) brooch. Gold-in-quartz is rare and becoming more so! It’s our understanding that it is now found in very few places in the world – possibly only one mine in California. The 14k setting has twisted gold on top of a carved gold oval. It measures 1-3/8 x 1-1/8" and weighs 6.8g. The pin assembly has been replaced. In excellent condition...

This very sparkly stunner has 2 big paste stones (7/16”), 2 smaller ones (1/4”), and 8 small accent stones (there should be 9, but one is missing, but it is not obvious), set in white metal. The whole thing measures 2” x 9/16”. Stamped “Czechoslov” on the back, it is in overall good condition: the stones have a couple chips, and a little abrasion, but the stones are so sparkly it’s hard to spot these. The clasp is bent over a bit, but still works just fine...

This pretty and very Victorian brooch consists of a navette-shaped border of rose gold surrounding an oval of yellow gold which highlights a flower and two leaves of rose gold. It tests as 10k, and is signed “A.J.C”. Measuring 1-3/4” x 3/8”, it weighs 3.2g. In overall good condition, but it could use some cleaning up. This pin came out of an important household in Newport, RI as a gift, circa 1900. The photos are part of the description; please examine carefully...

Here is one of our favorite lavaliers! It is quintessential Art Nouveau: a graceful and elegant shape with a flower and whiplash motif. The central amethyst weighs approximately 1/2 carat, and it is graced by 28 seed pearls. Feng Shui practitioners believe amethysts aid in purification, and give access to a higher plane of energy. Unmarked but tested 14k rose gold, it weighs 3.3g and measures 1” x 1” at the widest points. Chain not included. In very good antique condition, and circa 1900...

This lovely Art Nouveau lavaliere is unusual with its square lines at the top, making it both charmingly antique and very modern in appearance. It is made of 9 ct gold and is set with small pearls, amethysts [the smaller stones] and a large, central garnet/glass doublet. [Garnet/glass doublets were a common substitution in the Victorian age, when amethyst was one of the most valuable gemstones. Making them was often a family affair, done in the evenings around the kitchen table.] The pendant is...

Here is a lapel pin of Shriners or Masonic symbolism: a crescent moon with a sword or scimitar. It is set with 12 single cut diamonds. It has a screw back, and an additional prong, which we assume is to anchor the pin so it doesn’t rotate. The original finding or fitting is stamped 14, and all the yellow gold tests as 14k. The top metal is almost certainly white gold. It measures 3/4”, the finding is 5/8”, and the whole thing weighs 2.4g. In excellent condition. The photos are part of the...

We're on a roll here with February's birthstone...and garnet/glass doublets! This Art Nouveau lavalier is 10 k gold and is centered with an amethyst look-alike--a garnet/glass doublet. The dropper is a fresh water pearl. The pendant is 1 1/4" x 5/8" in size and is on a 16" gold filled chain. Circa 1900. Check out the accompanying blog for more about garnet/glass doublets.

We love this pin! The colors are so pretty, and the leafy design is so very Arts & Crafts. It consists of a berry and leaf motif, highlighted by a central cushion-cut blue chalcedony (thought to bring good luck), with a circular green aventurine on either side. Measuring 1-1/4” x 3/8", it is unmarked but tests as silver. It is in excellent condition, although the pin is a little bent. The pin stem assembly may be a replacement, but if so, it’s quite an old repair. Circa 1900. The photos are ...

Joan is a patron saint of France, and patron saint of soldiers. This is an intricate design by Edmond-Henri Becker, well-known French medalist. The front of this piece shows Joan of Arc in profile, also a shield decorated with a sword, a crown, and 2 fleurs-de-lis. Above her head is a banner saying “1429” and “Jehanne d’Arc”. The back shows a banner with a saint (or possibly the Madonna and Child – the metal is a bit worn here) with two people praying. Also shown are a spear, the pom...

Here is a very sweet pin signed by Hermann & Speck, well-known jewelers of Pforzheim, Germany. It is centered by a blue sapphire, and there is a pearl dangle. It is marked 333 for 8k gold but when we tested it, it held for 10k. It is also marked “Depose,” which translates roughly as “patent.” It measures 1-7/16” x 1" including the pearl dangle, and weighs 2.5g. In excellent condition, and circa 1900. Here is a sweet garland or festoon necklace composed of seed pearls set in 10 kt gold, with two pearls built into the draping chains, and a pearl dangle. The whole thing measures 14-5/8” (and we have gold necklace extenders if that’s too short). The decorated section measures 1-1/4” x 3/4” including the dangle. It is in excellent condition, but one seed pearl is missing. It’s really hard to tell - we only noticed when examining it under the microscope. Circa 1910 – it would have been...
