What a sweet necklace! Pansies have been equated with thoughtfulness, free thinking, and deep contemplation. Thus Shakespeare’s Ophelia said "There's pansies, that's for thoughts." This little pansy is made from (tested) 10k gold, with a modern-looking 14k bale, probably a later addition. The enamel shades from dark yellow through to white, with some dark details, and a (cultured?) pearl center. It measures 1/2” x 1/2”, and the chain is 16’-1/2” and is marked 14k...

This lavalier is enameled in two shades of blue, with a pearl dangle. The front is composed of 3 panels of enamel; the outer ones are in the shape of sweet stylized hearts, in dark blue. The center is a lighter color, and the back is enameled in a lovely sky blue. Overall it is in very good condition, though the enamel on the back shows a small amount of wear on the high points. It measures 2” from the top of the bail to the bottom of the pearl. Unmarked. C. 1900...

This pretty and very Victorian brooch consists of a navette-shaped border of rose gold surrounding an oval of yellow gold which highlights a flower and two leaves of rose gold. It tests as 10k, and is signed “A.J.C”. Measuring 1-3/4” x 3/8”, it weighs 3.2g. In overall good condition, but it could use some cleaning up. This pin came out of an important household in Newport, RI as a gift, circa 1900. The photos are part of the description; please examine carefully...

Here is a lovely pair of white gold-fronted double cuff links. Each end is marked WHITE GOLD FRONT BELAIS 14K; TALON GRIP TRADEMARK, and is octagonal, measuring 5/8 x 7/16”, with rigid connectors, hinged at one end. Belais Brothers were amongst the first to develop a formula for white gold (their patent was for 1917). Here is a very pretty brooch from the Arts & Crafts/Art Nouveau era. It features an oval purple cabochon, possibly glass, centered between two hammered leaves (very A&C), all on a very Art Nouveau framework. Marked “DEPOS” (probably meant to say “DEPOSE”, i.e., patented), it is most likely from Germany. There are two illegible marks, one on the C-clasp, and one on the back. It tests as silver, measures 1-3/4” x 3/4", and weighs 4.4 g...

FRONT, and is a rectangle measuring 5/8 x 1/2”, with rigid connectors, hinged at one end. There is space for a monogram, should you wish it. They weigh a total of 5g. So much symbolism in this pretty jewel! It depicts a crescent moon – symbol of the female principal, intuition and new beginnings; an arrow – symbol of swiftness (think: Katniss Everdeen, “Arrow”), Sagittarius, and sexual attraction (Cupid’s bow); and a 5-pointed star, symbolic of so many things we won’t even start! It is set with 11 turquoises (birthstone for December, believed to be good for healing and focus) and one seed pearl. The rose gold tests as 14kt...

Although this jewel is English, it reflects the aesthetics of fin de siècle Russia, with its pink topazes and demantoid garnets. The fairly large topazes are surrounded by swirls of seed-pearl-set gold, and set off by 4 bright green demantoid garnets, 2 of which are set into the fine chains which connect the top section to the bottom; of the other 2, the top one is a modified pear shape, the other oval. It measures 2” long by 1-1/8” across at the widest point, and weighs 5.4g...

In honor of Daenerys, Mother of Dragons in the fantastic book and TV series Game of Thrones, here is a delightfully detailed dragon stick pin with a tiny accent diamond in his mouth. This is a classic Victorian pin/necklace in a pinwheel design, with 9 lovely bright dark purple garnet and glass doublets (standing in for amethysts, probably at a time when real amethysts were quite rare and expensive), and lots of seed pearls. It has both a pin stem assembly for use as a brooch, and a jump ring for a chain. Hallmarked 10k on the clasp. There is a small break in the gold framework, which doesn’t endanger the piece at all, and isn’t noticeable without magnification; otherwis...

This heavily engraved pin is from the estate of Helen Aman, who escaped from the Bolshevik Revolution to (eventually) settle in California - it was one of her childhood jewels. It consists of a bell (with a clapper – but it doesn’t actually chime) dangling from an angled bar. Marked 84 for 875 silver, it also has a partial city mark, probably for Moscow. It measures 1-3/8” x 7/8", and is in excellent antique condition, with a nice patina. (For more of Helen’s story, contact us.) The pho...

Here is a pair of highly unusual cuff links! We have only seen one other pair with photos, and those were in base metal. Each has a photograph of an elegant lady in a white high-necked blouse with upswept hair. These were clearly worn a lot, based on the patina, but they still look great. The 10k marks are on the back of the fronts only, not on the “torpedo” ends, and we don’t like to test torpedoes, so can’t promise that they are also 10k. The fronts measure 7/8” x 5/8”, the torpedo...

During the Victorian era, every young gentleman had to make his Grand Tour, picking up souvenirs along the way. Lava cameos (actually made from a very fine-textured limestone) made into jewelry were highly sought after. This Victorian lava cameo stickpin is 14 k gold. The cameo and mounting are 3/8" in height; overall length of the pin is 2 5/8". A clutch will be supplied with the pin.

Gentlemen: this terrific lion is just waiting to take his place on your tie or lapel! Made from unmarked but tested 14kt yellow gold, with tiny red stones for eyes, and a (cultured?) pearl in his jaws, he measures 7/16” x 1/2”. The findings are either a low-carat gold or gold filled. The lion himself weighs 1.5g, and the total weight is 4.1g. He probably began life as a stickpin, circa 1900, and is in excellent condition. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefull...

Here is a shield-shaped sorority pin (9/16 x 1/2”), with 16 tiny seed pearls set around the perimeter, and 3 colored stones. The 2 upper stones are emerald green, the bottom one is sapphire blue. They are too tiny to identify with certainty. The shield is crossed by a band of white enamel bisecting a background of black enamel. On the band are the Greek letters Kappa Phi, and in gold on one side is a candle stick and on the other is a flower. On the back it is engraved with what looks like a ...
