This delicate little pendant was made by Jean-Baptiste-Emile Dropsy, one of the famous French medalists. The design was usually made out of a heavy gold plate, but this one is 18k rosy gold, unmarked but tested. Signed by Dropsy on the front, as is usual with French medals, it measures 1/2” in diameter (with the jump ring, 7/8”), and weighs 1.5g. It could be worn as a pendant or a very classy charm. In excellent condition, showing a gentle patina, and circa 1900...

We love this necklace! It combines an Art Nouveau central panel set with a freshwater pearl and a sapphire-blue paste stone with an Etruscan-style fringe. Unmarked, it really looks like gold, however it tests as rolled gold or gold fill (we haven’t tested the fringe for fear of obvious damage). The central panel measures 1-1/4” x 1-1/4” including the dangles. In total, there are 11 graduated dangles, the longest being 3/4” and the shortest 3/8”...

Amethysts were traditionally thought to aid in clarity of mind, putting the wearer in touch with their intuitions. This large amethyst should work beautifully, measuring 10mm across. It is set in a framework of leaves that bring to mind the Arts and Crafts era, with another leaf on the bale, and a fringe of tiny seed pearls dangles below. It is marked and tested 14k gold and weighs 1.8g. I believe it was made during the 1960s, but am not sure – it could be earlier. In excellent condition...

Marked "9CT" and WHH for William H Haseler, and most likely made to be sold by Liberty & Co, this lovely pin features a leaf motif in red and green enamel, on an "entrelac" or interlaced frame of gold, with 3 colorless paste stones. The gold is yellow, though in places it looks rosy. It measures 1-3/8 x 1/2” and weighs 3.2g. The hinge has an old repair, otherwise in very good antique condition, and circa 1900 (According to V...

This beautiful 14k (tested) rose gold brooch has a floral and crescent moon motif (the crescent moon is the symbol for intuition and new beginnings), accented by 10 rose cut diamonds in closed-back settings. The diamonds sparkle nicely. It has 2 makers marks: an oak leaf in an oval, and the letters “JR”, and possibly another that is illegible; no hallmarks. It measures 1-1/2 x 3/4”. The shaft connecting the flower to the backing has been repaired...

Here is a sweet ring, consisting of a flower made of 6 pearls (1 of which is a replacement), centered by a tiny rose cut diamond. There is a compartment underneath, perhaps for storing a tiny lock of hair, but the glass is gone. The ring tests as a very strong 14k, so it is probably 15k. There is cobalt blue enameling on the shoulders, which we’ve had repaired – this ring was obviously well loved, and it’s still beautiful! Size 6. Early Victorian...

This sweet lady is made of unmarked but tested 18k yellow gold. Spangled with 8 tiny diamonds (the birthstone for April), and with her hair swept up into a bun with whispy tendrils of hair around her ears, she is just charming! She measures 1” x 1”, and weighs 2.5g. The gold is a little worn at the high points, and we had the jump ring repaired, as it was worn very thin – someone clearly loved it a lot! On the back, it looks as though someone made a groove for testing the gold...

Ruby is the birthstone for July, and symbolizes love, devotion, and immortality. Pearls symbolize purity and harmony. What a great combination for these pretty earrings! They test as 10kt gold, although they are marked 375 for 9 karat gold. The hanging flower basket motif is quite charming! They contain a total of 16 rubies and 18 seed pearls. The total length is 1-7/8”, and together they weight 4.3g. As usual with older earrings, it’s possible that the wires are replacements...

Here is a fascinating ring consisting of strands of rose gold tied in a knot, and studded with gold balls. One ball is missing, which makes it pleasantly asymmetrical (it took us a while to realize that it wasn’t made that way!). The decorated area measures 5/8 x 1/2” and the shank measures 3/16”...

This unusual sterling silver and enamel pendant comes out of the Arts & Crafts movement, spearheaded by John Ruskin and William Morris, et al. The enamel colors are associated with the women’s suffrage movement in the UK: green (Give), white (Women the), and (Vote) violet – or at least, that’s the story! The free-standing wire work (so unusual!) interlaces around the body of the piece, and holds an oval of mother-of-pearl in place. Also unusual is the use of brown enamel. There is a little...

It tests as 14k gold, and the dragon measures 5/8 x 1/2" with a total length of 2-1/8". It weighs in at 2.4g. In excellent condition and circa 1900. Display your inner geek on your lapel! This lovely Art Nouveau lavaliere is unusual with its square lines at the top, making it both charmingly antique and very modern in appearance. It is made of 9 ct gold and is set with small pearls, amethysts [the smaller stones] and a large, central garnet/glass doublet. [Garnet/glass doublets were a common substitution in the Victorian age, when amethyst was one of the most valuable gemstones. Making them was often a family affair, done in the evenings around the kitchen table.] The pendant is...

This charming brooch is very wearable. Plique a jour jewels are very hard to come by these days – they are somewhat fragile, rare, and we believe that many of them are now in private collections. This lovely maple leaf pin seems to be missing one leaf. However, the space has been filled with a pretty drop made of green agate, so the loss is hardly noticeable. Along the main vein of each leaf and the stem are paste accent stones, and it is centered by a faux pearl. The plique itself is in good ...

Beautiful, antique, and signed by a famous maker--can it get any better? This lovely turn-of-the-century pendant is centered with a 12 x 30 mm oval citrine surrounded by marcasites, with pale blue enameled bows on the sides and enameled ribbons top and bottom. The dropper is a fresh water pearl. There is very minor enamel damage on left side. The metal is 935 silver [higher silver content than sterling) and the pendant is signed with the dragonfly mark for Mayle & Meyer. It dates from 1900-...

Here is a lovely 15kt yellow gold double-cluster ring: a cluster of pearls centered by a ruby, and one of rubies centered by a diamond. Ruby is the birthstone for July. The ring is hallmarked for Birmingham, England and 15 karat gold, there is a date mark for 1877, and also a maker’s mark for “P&E”. It is a size 7-1/2. One of the pearls may be a replacement, and one prong is missing. Someone used tiny amounts of glue (barely noticeable) on the pearls, though, so they are stable. A very att...
