The design of this lovely 15 ct gold Victorian ring surprisingly modern. Two faceted rubies are set off by three seed pearls, with each gem surrounded by a square bezel. It has English hallmarks for Chester [England], 1865-6, and 15 carat gold, as well as a maker's mark of BHJ. The ring is a size 7.

Here is a petit pendant made by Jean-Baptiste-Emile Dropsy, one of the famous French medalists. The design was usually made out of a heavy gold plate, but this one is 18kt rosy gold, unmarked but tested. Signed by Dropsy on the front, as is usual with French medals, it measures 1/2” in diameter (with the jump ring, 7/8”), and weighs 1.5g. It could be worn as a pendant or a very classy charm. In excellent condition, showing a gentle patina, and circa 1900...

Here is a dramatic brooch featuring two cabochons of round black onyx. This was probably a piece of Victorian mourning jewelry, which frequently used black onyx. It has also been used to defend against negativity – crucial in today’s world! Unmarked, but tests as 14 or 15 karat gold. It is centered by a baroque or freshwater pearl, and has two draping chains framing a central dogs-tooth pearl dangle. It is further decorated by swirls and ropes of gold...

Here is a gorgeous ring centered by a navette-shaped lapis lazuli (traditionally a stone of royalty, also signifying truth and inner strength), with specks of pyrite for a bit of sparkle. The stone measures 3/4” N to S, and 1/4” E to W. The setting is made of 14kt yellow gold, formed into graceful curlicues. It is stamped 14k, and also has a maker’s mark, which appears to be “KBN” and also a dot in a circle. The size is between 5-1/4 and 5-1/2, and it weighs 5.5g...

This sterling silver and enamel pendant comes out of the Arts & Crafts movement, spearheaded by William Morris, John Ruskin, et al. The enamel colors are associated with the women’s suffrage movement in the UK: green (Give), white (Women the), and violet (Vote)– or at least, that’s the story! The free-standing wire work (so unusual!) interlaces around the body of the piece, and holds an oval of mother-of-pearl in place. Also unusual is the use of brown enamel...

This wonderful antique,French necklace has all of the Wow! factor you expect from French jewelry. And it feels nothing short of opulent when you put it on. The necklace is 18 k gold (of course) open-work, with two palmate elements on each side. They join in a filigree-like round element that suspends a fifth, larger palmate element...

This pretty pin is so Art Nouveau! A lady’s face is surrounded by ribbons and flourishes, some set with seed pearls. It is gold filled, and measures 1-1/8” x 7/8”. Her nose and chin show some wear, and it has the patina of age. The pin stem assembly is mounted in a somewhat unusual fashion – please see photos. Circa 1900. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks! Shipping, handling & insurance within the USA is included.

Here is a very special necklace, combining an Art Nouveau central panel set with a freshwater pearl and a sapphire-blue paste stone with an Etruscan-style fringe. Unmarked, it really looks like gold, however it tests as rolled gold or gold fill (we haven’t tested the fringe for fear of obvious damage). The central panel measures 1-1/4” x 1-1/4” including the dangles. In total, there are 11 graduated dangles or drops, the longest being 3/4” and the shortest 3/8”...

Here is a very pretty pin featuring an oval purple cabochon, possibly glass, possibly amethyst (it’s hard to get a reading on this stone), centered between two hammered silver leaves (very A&C), all on a very Art Nouveau framework. Marked “DEPOS” (probably meant to say “DEPOSE”, which translates roughly as “patented”), it is probably from Germany. There are two illegible marks, one on the C-clasp, and one on the back. It tests as silver, measures 1-3/4” x 3/4", and weighs 4.4 g...

This brilliant cocktail ring from the 1960s-70s features a yellow diamond surrounded by a double row of 26 colorless diamonds. The center diamond has an estimate size of 0.5 carat and a clarity of VS1. The small diamonds are ~2.5 points each. Total estimated diamond weight for the ring is 1.15 carats. The ring is a size 7 1/2, and could be resized.

Here is a classic and simply gorgeous ring – when worn, the liveliness of the stones is riveting! A demantoid (green garnet) from the original mines in the Ural Mountains of Russia that is this big is very rare. This one is slightly oval, has the diagnostic horsetail inclusions, and is of an older cut. Some of the facets are a little abraded, but its beauty is still remarkable, especially since we’ve just had the table facet re-polished...

This striking jewel tests as at least 14kt, so it’s probably 15kt, and from England. It is set with what we are pretty sure is an iolite (hard to test because of the setting), and 4 pear-shaped purple garnets, all foiled, all set within an Etruscan Revival motif of coiling snake-like decorated gold ropes and leaves, with two dangling gold chains. The brooch measures 1-1/2 x 1-1/2 x 3/4" deep and weighs 8.7g. With the chains, the whole piece measures 2-1/2” long...

Here is a pretty ring, which comes out of the era when Edwardian styles were sliding into Art Deco. It is marked “925” for sterling silver, and set with a ruby, birthstone for those born in July. Rubies have been called “the queen of stones and the stone of kings.” The ring has the mellow patina of age, and is size 6. It could be sized. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks! Shipping, handling & insurance within the USA included. We do lay-away.

Here is a Victorian brooch with cross, anchor, and heart, the symbols for faith, hope and charity, respectively. It has nice detail work in the metal. Unmarked, but it is made of a layer of gold on top of what looks like copper. The center of the heart is set with a (faux?) seed pearl, and the cross is set with 11 tiny turquoise-colored cabs – they are too tiny for a definite ID...

Here is a classic “gypsy ring,” made from rich yellow 18kt gold. The center stone is a diamond, the outer two stones are rubies. It has decorative scroll work on the shoulders. The hallmarks are for Chester, 1903, and there is a maker’s mark that we can’t read. It weighs 4.0g, and is approximately size 5. The shank is a little off round, and it’s possible that it was sized at some time, however it is in excellent condition. The photos are part of the description; please examine them ca...

This heavily engraved silver pin is from the estate of Helen Aman, who escaped from the Bolshevik Revolution to (eventually) settle in California - it was one of her childhood jewels. It consists of a bell (with a clapper – but it doesn’t actually chime) dangling from an angled bar. Marked 84 for 875 silver, it also has a partial city mark, which we believe is for Moscow. It measures 1-3/8” x 7/8", and is in excellent antique condition, with a nice patina. (For more of Helen’s story, con...

Antique plique a jour (translucent enamel) jewels are hard to come by these days – they are somewhat fragile, rare, and we believe that many of them are now in private collections. This lovely maple leaf pin is highlighted with paste accent stones along the main veins. The green plique is a very nice rich color. It seems to be missing one leaf. However, someone filled the space with a pretty drop made of green agate, so the loss is hardly noticeable. It is centered by a faux pearl. The plique ...
