Here is a charming young lady or girl, nicely realized in 14k (marked and tested) yellow gold. She is shown in profile against a textured oval background. Her hair curls around at the base of the oval, and her bangs are in slight disarray – we think she’s just sweet! She measures 1/2” x 3/8”, with a total length of 2-1/4” and weighs 1.4 g. She could be cleaned up a bit – we leave that to the new owner to decide. Circa 1900 and in excellent condition...

This wonderful antique,French necklace has all of the Wow! factor you expect from French jewelry. And it feels nothing short of opulent when you put it on. The necklace is 18 k gold (of course) open-work, with two palmate elements on each side. They join in a filigree-like round element that suspends a fifth, larger palmate element...

An elegant queen graces the front of this antique locket. She wears a crown with a row of 7 tiny single-cut diamonds, and one slightly larger full-cut diamond at the top of the crown. Her hair cascades down to her shoulder, and gold disks hang from the crown. There is a little dent at about cheek bone height. The back has a monogram, possibly an S, and has several little dents, which are exaggerated in the photos. The rose gold (very hard to photograph the color accurately) tests at about 12k...

Here is a very sweet little pansy pendant! Pansies have been equated with thoughtfulness, free thinking, and deep contemplation. Shakespeare’s Ophelia said "There's pansies, that's for thoughts." This little pansy is made from (tested) 10k gold, with a modern-looking 14k bale, probably the result of a later change. The enamel shades from dark yellow through to white, with some darker details, and a (cultured?) pearl center...

Here is one of our favorite lavaliers! It is quintessential Art Nouveau, having a graceful and elegant shape, with a flower and the classic whiplash motif. The central amethyst weighs approximately 1/2 carat, and it is highlighted by 28 seed pearls. Feng Shui practitioners believe amethysts aid in purification, and give access to a higher plane of energy. It tests as 14k, and is that lovely subtle old rose gold color. It weighs 3.3g and measures 1” x 1” at the widest points...

Here is a truly beautiful garland or swag necklace out of the Art Nouveau/Edwardian era. It is pictured in Vivienne Becker’s “Art Nouveau Jewelry” on page 185. She describes it as having “festoons of gold chain in the Edwardian manner, set with peridots, and decorated with shaded satin enamel, c. 1900.” It is unmarked, but tests as 14k gold...

This 9kt yellow gold necklace is centered by a dark red garnet, probably a spessartite. Garnets are the birthstone for January, and were traditionally thought to keep travelers safe. The danglelis set with a blister pearl of a mellow off-white color. There are 3 tiny seed pearls in the main setting. It is hallmarked “9ct”, and the attached chain is marked “375 9k.” The pendant measures 1-5/16" x 7/8", and the total length of the chain with the pendant is 16-3/4"...

Here is a striking pin, which is a mixture of the Art Nouveau and Victorian styles. The Victorians loved to use real insects, especially these green beetles, in jewelry. The Nouveau jewelers loved naturalistic motifs, but generally didn’t use the insect itself – yet the design of the pin is very Nouveau. Marked 14k, the pale gold setting contrasts nicely with the deep green of the beetle. The pin stem assembly is original...

Here is a classic Art Nouveau stick pin centered by an amethyst, birthstone for February. Back in the day, amethysts were thought to prevent drunkenness, as well as being a cure for headaches (is there a theme here?). There is a seed pearl above and one below, all mounted in a (marked and tested) 14k “whiplash” frame (the whiplash motif was very popular with Nouveau artists). Measuring 1/2” x 2-1/4" long, it weighs 1.5g. There is an illegible maker’s mark. The pin is curved, but could be...

Here is a romantic stickpin depicting a woman in profile with a pearl nestled into the curls of her hair. It would make a great gift for a man or a woman, or a sweet addition to your own collection. Marked 14k, it’s made from yellow gold, and signed by the maker, Whiteside & Blank. It measures 2-3/8”, and weighs 2.0g. The pin is slightly bent, and the back is dented a little, but this doesn’t detract from the beauty of this enchanting jewel. Historical note: Mr. Blank of Whiteside & Blank...

Here is an English pin featuring a large peridot (1 cm x 6 mm or 3/8” x 2/8”), and, on either side, pearl-set gold shamrocks. Flanking those are 3 green garnets (demantoids) per side, plus 1 above and 1 below the peridot. Peridot symbolizes spring and youthfulness, and it is said to bring wealth and health. On either side is an Art Nouveau whiplash of gold with more pearls. Stamped 15ct. The brooch weighs 5.1 g and measures 1-9/16” x 5/8”. Three of the tiny seed pearls are missing, but t...
