Here is a maple leave pin, consisting of plique a jour enamel in a silver setting. Antique plique a jour (translucent enamel) jewels are hard to come by these days – they are somewhat fragile and rare, and we believe that many of them are now in private collections. This lovely pin is highlighted with paste accent stones along the main leaf veins. The green plique is a very nice rich color. It seems to be missing one leaf...

Here is a lovely sash buckle, designed for Tiffany by the well-known and collectible George Shiebler. The marks are: “Tiffany & Co,” the winged S for Shiebler, “Sterling,” and “4758” (we’re not sure what that means). It is 3” x 2”, with a slight curve to it, and weighs 42.2g/1.49oz. Decorated with a floral motif, it’s a classic beauty. Geo. W. Shiebler & Co. was in business under that name from 1876 until almost 1915...

This silver buckle is so perfectly Art Nouveau and so perfectly William B. Kerr. It is 5 1/4" wide and 1 5/8" high and bears these markings: PATENTED JUNE 25, 1901; STERLING; 1564; and the fasces [maker's mark for Kerr]. It is in excellent condition, and the patina of age has been left undisturbed. Circa 1900.

Here is a sky-blue enameled pendant with a blue enameled dropper. It tests as silver, most likely sterling. It has two shades of light blue enamel on the front, highlighted by flourishes in silver. The dropper is also enameled in shaded hues of blue. The enamel continues on the back in sky blue – what wonderful attention to detail! Excluding the bale, it is 1-1/2” long by just under 3/4” across...

Here is a pretty pin, marked and tested as sterling silver. It features 5 paste stones, and measures 1-3/4” x 1/2". It weighs 4.4g, and is in excellent condition. We believe it is from the 1970s, but it could be 80s. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks! Shipping, handling & insurance within the USA included.

Sometimes movies drive popularity, and this was the case in the late 20s when period films sparked a craze of butterfly wing jewelry. This set is a pretty, vintage treasure and consists of a necklace and two pairs of earrings, one button and one dangle. Each piece features a tropical scene. The oblong pendant holds an oval tropical beach scene painted in black, in a sterling silver mounting. The silver chain is 18" long, and for some reason has a 12 k white gold clasp...

Here is a pin that we just love! The colors are so pretty, and the leafy design is so very Arts & Crafts-y! It consists of a berry and leaf motif, highlighted by a central cushion-cut cabochon blue chalcedony (thought to bring good luck), with a round green aventurine cabochon on either side. Measuring 1-1/4” x 3/8", it is unmarked but tests as silver. It is in excellent condition, although the pin is a little bent (pretty typical for these old pieces)...

Here is an engaging portrait in silver, of a wind-swept youthful person clad in a cloak and hood. It’s very detailed and just lovely. We think it’s a boy (very unusual in jewelry), as the hair seems to be quite short under the hood. The hood itself looks like a cap made from a flower, as seen on fairies in Victorian children’s books. It measures 1-1/8” wide, is hollow, and is marked “STERLING TOP GERMAN SILVER BACK”. The (sterling) front is in very good condition...

Here is an adorable pin depicting two cupids, a boy and a girl, looking sweet, serene, and loving. Their plique a jour (translucent enamel) wings are a pale purple or mauve color, nicely complimenting the 900 silver. The girl is wearing a tiny necklace of roses. The pin measures 1” x 1-3/4” and weighs 5.7g. The clasp might be a replacement, but the rest is all original, and the pin is in excellent antique condition...

Fit for a museum, this rare and wonderful Egyptian Revival pin has a portrait painted on porcelain. It is mounted in 800 silver and surrounded by 16 coral beads on wire. There have been some repairs [not visible from the front] as is so common in jewelry repaired in the 19th century. 1 1/4" diameter. Circa 1875.

Here is a very Victorian grooming chatelaine from the 1800s. It has a Chinese fish motif at the top, and dangling from that are 3 implements: a tweezers, an ear-cleaning device, and a third implement for cleaning nails. (We saw a similar chatelaine on eBay, and the ear-cleaning implement was advertised as a device for opium users, but we don’t think so! But as non-opium users, we could be wrong ….) It is unmarked but tests positive for silver, and with an age-consistent patina...

Here is a very pretty pin featuring an oval purple cabochon, possibly amethyst, possibly glass (it’s hard to get a reading on this stone), centered between two hammered silver leaves (very A&C), all in a very Art Nouveau framework. Marked “DEPOS” (probably meant to be “DEPOSE”, which translates roughly as “patented”), it is probably from Germany. There are two illegible marks, one on the C-clasp, and one on the back. It tests as silver, measures 1-3/4” x 3/4", and weighs 4.4 g. ...

Here is a heavily engraved silver pin from the estate of Helen Aman, who escaped from Russia during the Bolshevik Revolution to (eventually) settle in California. It was one of the jewels from her childhood. It consists of a bell (with a clapper – but it doesn’t chime) dangling from an angled bar. Marked 84 for 875 silver, it also has a partial city mark, which we believe is for Moscow. It measures 1-3/8” x 7/8", and is in excellent antique condition, with a nice patina. (For more of Helen...

Here is a pin with an ancient Celtic design: two birds with enameled wings, bodies and eyes, with interlaced silver above and below. The enamel is in red, blue, green, and white. It is marked 925 for sterling silver, and has several other marks which are illegible. 1-1/2” X 1-1/4”. There are a couple places where the enamel isn’t perfect – please see photos. Probably a more recent casting of an older piece, and very pretty indeed! The photos are part of the description; please examine t...

Here is a coral garland (also referred to as “festoon” or “swag”) necklace consisting of 8 coral cabuchons of graduated lengths and sizes. The three longest drops are on rigid bars. The coral is a lovely dark ox-blood red. Coral was believed to prevent bad luck, and to be an aid to meditation. The length is 15-1/4” (but it would be easy to lengthen it), and the decorated portion is 4-1/4” x 2-1/8” at the longest point. The chain bears the mark for silver jewels imported into Austro...

This brilliant vintage squash blossom necklace is anecdotally from the 1950s but stylistically typical of the 1970s (the leaves surrounding the turquoise cabochons were popular at that period.) It is sterling silver and turquoise but unmarked. The 1/4” sterling beads are bench-made. The necklace is 27” in length, with a naja that measures 2 5/8 in width by 3 inches in length. The necklace is set with 17 turquoises. The seven ornamenting the naja are 3/8 by ½ inches in size, and the ten su...
