This lovely and very old serving spoon could have graced the dining room of any of Miss Jane Austen’s well-to-do characters. It has a berry motif in the gold-washed interior of the bowl (the wash or gilt is very pale and doesn’t show up in the photos). By its hallmarks (crowned leopard’s head, lion passant, and date letter “N” with “feathers”), it was made in London during 1768-1769. The maker’s mark is a script “BB”. It measures 8-1/2" x 1-3/4", and weighs approximately 56g....

Swirling flowers and a bud highlight this mixed-metal sash buckle. The silver plate shows some wear - yellow metal shows through at some of the high points. We believe the gold to be about 9kt, and it’s also a plating of some type. The buckle measures 3 x 2-1/2" and weighs in at 47.5 grams. Unmarked. In overall very good condition, except for the few worn spots already mentioned; the gold might be a little worn in a few places too – it’s difficult to tell because of the texturing. Circa 19...

The design of this piece is delightful and quite wild! It is primarily an Egyptian Revival piece, centering the Goddess Hathor (a goddess of music, dance, and fertility). She is wearing big earrings, and her usual headdress. She seems to have a flower in her hair, and in front of her there is greenery tied by a ribbon with a bow (we can’t tell if it’s laurel or mistletoe). The ink pots (no glass inserts) have winged hearts on them, and are surmounted by crescent moons – symbols from many c...

From the 1960s-70s, here is a smashing cocktail ring with a 0.5 ct [estimated] yellow diamond of VS1 clarity surrounded by a double row of 26 colorless diamonds. Each small diamond is ~2.5 points each, for a total estimated diamond weight for the ring of 1.15 ct. This lovely ring is a size 7 1/2, and could be resized.

This pretty pin has a lotus or water lily motif highlighted with a tiny pearl. (The lotus is a symbol of purity and enlightenment, especially to Buddhists.) It is unmarked but tests as 10kt gold. It measures 1-1/8”, and weighs in at 0.04 oz. It would look lovely on a lapel or blouse. Circa 1900. The photos are part of the description; please examine them carefully. Thanks! A gorgeous queen graces the front of this antique locket. She wears a crown with a row of 7 tiny single-cut diamonds, and one slightly larger full-cut diamond at the peak of the crown. Her hair cascades down to her shoulder, and gold disks hang from the crown. She has a little dent at about cheek bone height. The back has a monogram, possibly an S, and has several little dents. The rose gold tests at about 12k. It is 1” in diameter, and weighs 5.3 g. Some of the detailing of her hair is worn, ...

The popularity of all things Italian amounted to mania in the Victorian England of 1860-1880. Especially favored were objects of Etruscan design. This locket is gold fill, decorated with an Etruscan Revival motif punctuated with a pearl. The locket is 1 ½" long and is unmarked.

Amethysts were traditionally thought to aid in clarity of mind, putting the wearer in touch with their intuitions. This large amethyst should work a treat, measuring 10mm across. It is set in a framework of leaves that bring to mind the Arts and Crafts era, with another leaf on the bale, and a fringe of tiny seed pearls dangles below. It is marked and tested 14k gold and weighs 1.8g. I believe it was made during the 1960s, but am not sure – it could be earlier. In excellent condition. The pho...

Here is a shield-shaped sorority pin (9/16 x 1/2”), with 16 tiny seed pearls set around the perimeter, and 3 colored stones. The 2 upper stones are emerald green, the bottom one is sapphire blue. They are too tiny to identify with certainty. The shield is crossed by a band of white enamel bisecting a background of black enamel. On the band are the Greek letters Kappa Phi, and in gold on one side is a candle stick and on the other is a flower. On the back it is engraved with what looks like a ...

Here is a very pretty ring with a triangular or trilliant cut synthetic alexandrite and 2 full-cut diamond accent stones. The stone is a steel blue in daylight, and a pretty purple in incandescent light, with teal blue flashes; it measures 1/4” per side. Size 7-3/4, and easily sized. It is marked 10k and is in excellent condition – we believe it was never worn. Circa 2000. The photos are part of the description; please examine carefully. Thanks! This gorgeous necklace features 13 Madeira citrines (birthstone for November; they are said to bring joy and optimism into one’s life) – 3 clusters of 3 each, and 4 set singly. The central cluster has a pearl dangle. The rose gold is marked 9ct on the clasp, but it tests as a weak 10k. No other marks. Wearable length is 18-3/4”. Excellent condition. The clasp is a little fussy, but could easily be replaced. Circa 1910 or earlier. The photos are part of the description; please examine them ...

This sweet lady is made of unmarked but tested 18k yellow gold. Spangled with 8 tiny diamonds (the birthstone for April), and with her hair swept up into a bun with whispy tendrils of hair around her ears, she is just charming! She measures 1” x 1”, and weighs 2.5g. The gold is a little worn at the high points, and we had the jump ring repaired, as it was worn very thin – someone clearly loved it a lot! On the back, it looks as though someone made a groove for testing the gold. Otherwise i...

This extremely cool and very collectable brooch depicts 5 turbaned “blackamoors.” Made from (unmarked, tested) 14k rose gold, and black and white enamel, the details are picked out in gold (their eyes, mouths, collars and turbans). There is a partial hallmark on the pin, and old repair to the pin stem assembly (invisible from the front), and some damage to the black enamel, especially the two outer figures’ noses and the chin of the rightmost figure. The pin weighs 6.0g or .21oz, and it me...

Weird yet wonderful, and SO Victorian! Here is a grooming chatelaine from the 1800s. It has a Chinese fish motif at the top, and dangling from that are 3 implements, a tweezers, an ear-cleaning device, and a third implement for cleaning nails. (We just saw a similar chatelaine on eBay that was advertised as a device for opium users, but we don’t think so!) It is unmarked but tests positive for silver, and with a patina consistent with age. It is lacking a belt hook, but is in excellent antique...

Here is a lovely 15kt yellow gold double-cluster ring: a cluster of pearls centered by a ruby, and one of rubies centered by a diamond. Ruby is the birthstone for July. The ring is hallmarked for Birmingham, England and 15 karat gold, there is a date mark for 1877, and also a maker’s mark for “P&E”. It is a size 7-1/2. One of the pearls may be a replacement, and one prong is missing. Someone used tiny amounts of glue (barely noticeable) on the pearls, though, so they are stable. A very att...

This young lady is so sweet! Shown in profile, with flowers in her hair and more beneath, she is mounted in hallmarked and tested 18k gold. There is a gold foliate wreath, fastened with a ribbon, gracefully draped across the lower part of the cameo. The pin stem assembly has a trombone catch. The bale folds down when worn as a brooch. It measures 2-1/4 x 1-7/8", and is in excellent condition. We believe it was created using the ultrasonic method of carving. The photos are part of the descriptio...

This elegant sterling silver fancy-link chain from the era of the Titanic (but possibly as late as the Art Deco period – Downton Abbey!), is interesting enough to be worn on its own, or you could hang a pendant or watch from it.
