This sweet brooch depicts two adorable cupids, a boy and a girl, looking serene and loving. Their plique a jour (translucent enamel) wings are a pale purple or mauve color, nicely complimenting the 900 silver. The girl is wearing a tiny necklace of roses. The pin measures 1” x 1-3/4” and weighs 5.7g. The clasp might be a replacement, but the rest is all original, and the pin is in excellent antique condition. It is stamped “DEPOSE” (“patent or registration in France,” but other count...

This lovely pin is 14 k gold. The very Victorian motif of hearts on a crescent is outlined in seed pearls. It is hallmarked but the mark is incomplete; the marks for Birmingham and England are present, along with an unidentified mark. There is no date stamp but the 2" wide pin appears to be circa 1890.

This interesting beetle stick pin harkens back to the Egyptian revivals (early 1800s, and then again in the 1920s). Perfect for your lapel, the beetle is in very good condition (the pin is slightly bent, as is usual with gold stick pins), and is set in unmarked but tested 14k rose gold. The beetle itself is 9/16” x 7/16” at the widest points, and is held firmly in place by 4 prongs. The whole thing is 2-3/4” long. The Victorians loved to use organic things in their jewelry, and this partic...

This simple yet elegant gold washed lavalier evokes both the Nouveau and the Deco eras with its design. It measures 1-3/8” without the bale, and 1/2” at the widest point. It features 3 dark purple stones, which might be glass – we couldn’t identify them with certainty. The top stone’s facets are somewhat abraded, and there is wear to the metal. Circa 1920. The photos are part of the description, so please examine them with care. Thanks! Shipping, handling & insurance free within the U...

This pair of double “Sunrise” or “Sunset” cuff links is marked WHITE GOLD FRONT BELAIS 14K; TALON GRIP TRADEMARK. They are octagonal, measuring 5/8” x 7/16”, with rigid connectors that are hinged at one end. The Belais Brothers were among the first to develop a formula for white gold (patented 1917). Many feel they were the premier workers in white gold of their era, and their pieces are collectible. These show some wear to the gold, with a bit of red metal, perhaps copper, showing t...

Here is a very Victorian brooch, featuring a cross, anchor, and heart, symbols of faith, hope and charity. The metal has very nice engraving. Unmarked, but made of a layer of gold on top of what looks like copper. The center of the heart is set with a seed pearl, possibly faux, and the cross is set with 11 tiny turquoise-colored cabs – they are too tiny for us to make a definite ID. It measures 1-3/16 x 7/8". The gold shows wear here and there, and it has a nice patina. Overall it is in very g...

This plique a jour pendant is centered with an oval white opal and accented with eight colorless brilliants. The dropper is a fresh water pearl. The translucent enamel is an unusual and lovely blue in color. Plique a jour, that unusual, difficult, and beautiful technique, dates from the 15th century. It was used by Cellini, then revived in the late 1800s in France. The metal frame in this lovely piece is 900 silver, suggesting that the piece is most likely German or Austrian in origin. Circa ...

A sassy dragon curled around a large amethyst-colored brilliant (yes, it’s glass) hides the hook that turns this into a watch pin. He has a dark red cabochon eye (probably also glass) and a colorless brilliant in his mouth. The pin is unmarked and is 1” by ¾” in size. The metal is vermeil (gold over silver). A round hinge and eared clasp suggest an age of late 1800s or early 1900s, but the exact age is unknown.

This fabulous bracelet by Schaverien & Eastmead of Birmingham, England, is 7” long and 3/8” wide at the widest points. Each panel features enamel shading from dark green to pale green to magenta and back again. In between each panel is a round blister pearl. Each connecting link has a hard-to-read mark, probably a lion, also the marks for Birmingham, 1909, and “S&E”. The clasp has a safety chain. One enamel panel has a very small black spot, and one has a tiny chip in the enamel, barely ...

This pretty stickpin is made of (stamped) 14kt white gold and is set with an unidentified colorless gemstone - not diamond or one of the common substitutes for diamond. Not glass or plastic - it's a real stone. Also a real mystery. Whatever it is, it's a perfect complement to the setting. There is an illegible maker's mark. Overall length is 2 3/8" and it’s C. 1915. (Stick pins are pins similar to small dressmaker pins, except that they are longer and often have quite ornamental tops to them. ...

This necklace has all of the wow factor you expect from French jewelry. It is 18k gold (of course) open-work, with two palmate elements on each side. They join in a filigree-like round element that suspends a fifth, larger palmate element. The elaborate chain consists of marquise-shaped filigree links. The French eagle mark, indicating both French origin and 18 k gold, is on the clasp. The necklace is a generous 17 1/2" long. Circa 1890-1900. For all its dainty appearance, the 18k gold giv...

Here is a lovely antique ring in unmarked but tested 18kt rose gold. The center stone is a ruby cut in an old style, but in really excellent condition. (It’s possible that it’s a replacement stone.) It is surrounded by 8 rose cut and more randomly-cut diamonds which are definitely original, and which might be foiled, but in any case are in a closed-back setting. Typically for the period, a couple of them are chipped or have feathers (inclusions). The ring is a size 8-1/4, and could be sized...

This pretty pin features an oval purple cabochon, possibly amethyst, possibly glass (it’s hard to get a reading on this stone), centered between two hammered silver leaves (very A&C in style), all in a very Art Nouveau framework. Marked “DEPOS” (probably meant to be “DEPOSE”, which translates roughly as “patented”), it is probably from Germany. There are two illegible marks, one on the C-clasp, and one on the back. It tests as silver, measures 1-3/4” x 3/4", and weighs 4.4 g. Th...

This beautiful unsigned ring has been attributed to Bernard Instone, one of the well-known Arts & Crafts era jewelers, who frequently didn’t sign his pieces. He often used leaves-as-prongs for setting stones, and as was often the way in the A&C movement, he didn’t use costly stones nor gold, so he could keep his prices affordable. This ring is made from sterling silver and set with a blue-green “Swiss lapis” (dyed quartz) which measures approximately 3/4” x 9/16”. It is about size 5...
