Victorian fashion became newly popular in the late 1920s, assisted by a number of period films. The shimmering colors of butterfly wing graced increasingly popular jewelry which originated in England, where it was made from the wings of the Morpho, a Brazilian butterfly.
This set is a real treasure and consists of a necklace and two pairs of earrings, one button and one dangle. Each piece features a tropical scene. The oblong pendant holds an oval tropical beach scene in a sterling silver mounting. The silver chain is 18" long, and for some reason has a 12 k white gold clasp. [Sometimes I don't understand people.] The exact age is unknown, but painted butterfly wing jewelry was popular from the late 1920s through the 50s.
