Chinese late Qing dynasty Guangxu period ewer molded in the form of a seated monkey holding a peach with a young monkey on its lap painted on the biscuit in an iridescent susancai palette of aubergine, green, and yellow. The bent arm forms the handle and a hat is the lid. The base is unglazed. Measures 8” high by about 6 ½” across from handle to spout. Late 19th century. Very good overall condition with original lid. There is a small chip on the tip of the spout and a tiny frit to the edge of the hat. From the private collection of a former American resident in Guangzhou and Beijing from 1983-1987.
