Large format Japanese limited edition etching by Ouchi Makoto (1926-1989) titled “Journey” dated 1980. The etching is numbered 40 from an edition of 80 and is pencil-signed and titled in Japanese "Tabi." Paper size: 24 5/8"V x 18 3/4"H. Full margins. Very good overall condition. There are three small pieces of archival linen tape at the top back and a few soft creases in the margins. There is a tiny spot in the green area on the front. Ouchi Makoto draws from traditional 19th century ukiyo-e woodblock prints in his subject matter. This image is illustrated as plate 35 in the reference work “Aramusha: Ouchi Makoto The Artist Warrior” by Mary and Norman Tolman. The artist’s comment in the catalogue for this image is as follows: “This is a sightseeing tour in the Edo period. Various people are having a good time traveling. They walk on, free and easy, chatting. They have no fear of hijacks and traffic accidents. Wonderful! Wonderful!"
