Chinese late Qing to early Repubic period muted iron red and black lacquered provincial wood chest or cabinet painted with gold bamboo and flowers. The interior is embellished with red flowers on black lacquer. Two sets of double-doors each open to reveal a drawer and an open storage area. A panel below the open area slides up to reveal a hidden storage compartment at the bottom. The chest appears to have the original distressed lacquer finish and hardware. 42 1/2"L x 15"D x 40"H (42"H at top edges). Late 19th to early 20th century. This is a solid piece in very good overall condition. It is possible that old repairs or restored areas exist.
