Antique Japanese ink and color on silk scrolled painting depicting the Rokkasen, or six poet immortals, after Katsushika Hokusai (1760-1849). Signed at the lower right “Zen Hokusai Katsushika hitsu” with red Fuji seal. 19th century. Painting: 45 3/4”V x 19 1/2”H (scroll: about 76”V x 25 7/8”H). The painting is in clean overall condition. There is are a few horizontal buckles in the center of the painting and a few slight vertical crinkles in the top. The mounting has some tattering at the edges and slight soiling at the bottom. There is overall browning evident on the painting and the silk mounting. One wood scroll end is missing. From an old Tucson, Arizona collection. Purchased in New York at an auction in the 1950s.
