Charming Japanese Meiji period “aka-e” (red) Kutani porcelain dish decorated in overglaze rust-red, salmon, and gilt highlights with a frog, dragonfly, butterfly, snail, and assortment of insects within a central roundel surrounded by a crescent moon shaped panel densely covered in scrolling vines. Late 19th century. 9 1/2” diameter x 1 1/2” high. A “Dai Nihon Kutani” mark is faintly visible on the base. Very good overall condition with some rubbing of the enamels and mark. There is a gold painted old flea bite to the rim. From an old Scottsdale, Arizona collection.
