A rarely encountered first edition Japanese shin hanga woodblock print titled "Kegon Falls in Nikko" by Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) from a series titled “Collection of Ukiyo-e Designs.” The image is dated at the lower right Autumn of Showa 2 (1927) and the title is in the right margin. The artist's black ink signature and red seal are below the date at the lower right corner of the image. The rumi (Bijutsusha) publisher’s seal is below it. Paper measures just under 15 1/4" x 10 1/4" (image size: 14 1/4" x 9 1/2"). Good overall condition with embossed highlights in the waterfall. The green and yellow color has faded, and very faint toning is evident. The paper is slightly wrinkled and there is a tiny tear in one margin. The top margin edge is frayed and slightly thinned, and there is a narrow band of tape residue at the very edge. This image is color illustrated as plate 170 in Volume 2 of "Kawase Hasui: The Complete Woodblock Prints" by Kendall H. Brown, Hotei Publishing, 2003.
