Chinese late Qing dynasty square form wood table dressing chest or scholar’s box with attractive pronounced wood grain. The front panel is decorated with a butterfly or bat form metal lockplate. It lifts off to reveal seven drawers with metal double-fish drawer pulls. The top has two bronze handles set against six floral mounts. Late 19th to early 20th century. 9 3/8” square. Very good overall condition. The wood has shrunk in several areas due to our dry desert climate in Arizona. That has caused the front panel to not stay securely in place. If shipped to a moist climate, the wood should swell back up somewhat. From the estate of a former American expatriate to Hong Kong and China in the 1970s and 1980s.
