Japanese "yakusha-e" (actor) woodblock print by Kuniaki II (1835-1888) depicting the kabuki actor Ichikawa Sadanji portraying a commoner in a show storm. Meiji Period (circa 1880). The artist's signature followed by the red Toshidama seal of the Utagawa School are at the upper left. The name of the actor is in the cartouche at the upper right. The paper size is nearly 9 5/8"V x 6 5/8"H (image: 8"V x 5 3/4"H). The print is in good overall condition with excellent color and full margins. There is a large water stain on the back which does not show from the front except for a tiny bleed area on the red cartouche at the upper right (see enlargement 6).
