Japanese woodblock print titled "O-Kane of Omi" depicting the strong woman of Omi Province carrying a tub of laundry set within a round cartouche encircled by flowers from the series "Mirror of Women of Wisdom and Courage" by Utagawa Kuniyoshi (1797-1861). Published by Takahashi-ya circa 1843-1845. Standard oban size. Very good overall condition. Restored upper right corner. An illustration of this image can be found on page 227, plate 595, of "Japonisme: The Japanese Influence on Western Art Since 1858" by Siegfried Wichman, Themes and Hudson, 1999. The series is illustrated on plates 116 & 117 of "Utagawa Kuniyoshi: Raymond A. Bidwell Collection Exhibition Catalogue" from the Springfield Museum of Fine Arts, MA, 1980.
