This beautiful little antiquity is a bronze vessel, called a Fang Hu, from the Han Dynasty of ancient China. It is from the collection of the late John Piscopo - originally purchased from Allen's Antiques in New Zealand. It has two Tao-tieh handles on the sides. There were originally small rings attached that are no longer present. There is also a loop cast into the lid that is still intact. There are no signs of repair or restoration and the metal solid and stable. The patina is a lively mix of reds and browns. This one is nearly 17 cm high and weighs 450 grams with lid. These have all but vanished from the private market but a motivated consignor wants this one to move quickly, so we have priced it well below current value. Contact with any questions.
