Here is an incredible opportunity to own an authentic Shang Dynasty (1700-1100 BC) spear head from ancient China. This particular piece was formerly in the famed Arthur M. Sackler collection. The auction tag from Christies showing the sale and lot number will remain with the piece. It is solid and stable and has some fantastic crystal formations in the patina. There are mineralized remains of decorations that were tied to the perforations in the blade. There are remnants of wood fibers in the socket as well. This piece appears slightly bent (as can be seen in the photos) but these types were apparently cast with these slight bends in the blades, since every known sample we have seen has had an identical curvature. Add the fact that it has documented provenance from one of the world's most famous collections and you have an incredible buy. I will also provide the buyer with one of our detailed condition reports at less than half the regular price if desired. This piece measures 26.5 cm in length and 6.5 cm across at the widest point. It weighs 397 grams.
