Rare, hand carved sterling silver pin or brooch designed and signed circa 1950's by Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling. Pin measures 2 inches across and comprised of deep, rich chocolate to warm cream shell outlined with stud attached sterling silver ribbon accents. All mounted on a sterling silver platform. Signed on reverse WS script, WILLIAM SPRATLING , 925, TAXCO, with Spratling's eagle # 30. Beautiful vintage condition with no chips or cracks to shell or silver. Pin back works perfectly. Pictured in the 1963 book MEXICAN JEWELRY by Greta Pack & Mary Davis and on Phyllis Goddards excellent website spratlingsilver.com. Reminiscent of the gordian knot, this eye catching design is a perfect accent for any garment or occasion.
