This striking silver & amethyst necklace was designed & signed c. 1940's by Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling (1900-67). The pendant measures 3 1/4" X 3 1/4" & weighs 70 grams. The thick, original 21" chain also weighs 70 grams. The pendant detaches from the chain so that it can be worn as a brooch. The silver & 10 amethysts cabs are in beautiful, original condition. This design is pictured on p. 44 of MEXICAN SILVER by Penny Morrill & Carole Berk. Spratling designs are included in the permanent LACMA Latin American collection as well as many other fine art museum collections.
