This pair of hand forged sterling silver butterfly or moth earrings were designed & signed in the 1940's by American & Taxco, Mexico designer William Spratling (1900-67). Each screw back earring measures 1" X 1". Beautiful condition & patina. Both signed on the reverse. Along with this earring design, Spratling created a brooch in 4 different sizes. The pair are pictured on p.54 of MEXICAN SILVER by Penny Morrill & Carole Berk. They are also included in the permanent collection of Mexican silver at LACMA & can be viewed at the museum or on their website.
