Rare, hand made and standing 4 3/4" tall this sterling silver and black onyx ostrich sculpture was designed and signed in the early 1950's by Taxco, Mexico artist William Spratling. Comprised of an egg shaped body of black onyx with white specks. The bird has applied detailed wings and tail feathers along with an intricately detailed face, head and ostrich neck. The piece stands on two long detailed legs and feet. Head to tail measures 4 3/4". Fully hallmarked WS, 925, WILLIAM SPRATLING, TAXCO and the eagle 63. We have seen only a few examples of this sculptural design. Excellent vintage condition with no dents or dings to the silver. Onyx is in beautiful original condition.
