This is Noragi used in the Tohoku district from the last years of Meiji to the Taisho era period. This Sashiko was made with a machine. The sewing machine was imported from Edo period by Japan. In Sashiko with the machine, I think that this type of item is a beginning in the Tohoku district. The dye of the natural indigo plant is used for this. Therefore this has rubbed natural fading. This brings about the change that an indigo plant place and comparison with fading are interesting. It is like the gradation of the indigo blue. And Sashiko with the machine forms a pin-stripe pattern of the sideways-facing. This has several damage and fading of general indigo blue. Fading is the good trace that occurred by moderate work. This is a thread similar to a thread spun by hand and is done sashiko. And the feeling that is Folky is left for this. 4 images from the right are inside images. Size 125cm x 121cm (49.2 "x47.6")
