This is a terrific set, original signed kiri wood box, signed Kyoto ware sake bottle and original feather light lacquer bowl. I love the freely painted enamel depiction of a male and female musicians. The script style calligraphy and red seal set this example apart of the competition. Excellent potting, with pattered cracking overall. The deeply set base ring is interesting. The box measures 8 ½ x 3 ½ inches. Condition: The wonderful thing about this set is that it has been well loved and used over a period of time. There are no chips, cracks or repairs, the lacquer bowl shows wear. Please see our store page for sales policy and other information and let us know if you need additional photographs.

A really rare and spectacular example of Kiseto ware. The round impressed seal is clearly visible but I have not been to identify the artist. The three incised panels on the outside combined with the very irregular overall shape make this a truly unique collector’s piece. The thick and glossy glaze has wonderful crazing. The copper-green splashes are deep and vibrant. The bowl is a deep yellow which the pictures do not properly show. Size: 4 1/8 to 4 ½ inches across the rim by about 2 3/8 inches high. Condition: Near Perfect, no chips cracks or repairs. This is the only example of this ware that we currently have to offer. Please see our store page for sales policy and other information and let us know if you need additional photographs.

Beautiful small depiction of a Woman holding a loaf of bread and a short staff. The size, apparent age (? Mid 1800’s) and subject matter makes this a really special item. I’m fairly sure that this is Bennington pottery but it could be Rockingham. It was purchased from New York city. Size: 6 inches tall. Condition: One small early chip on the bottom rim otherwise excellent. Note: The color is more of a golden brown then what the photographs show. Please see my store page for sales policy and other information.

A very nice example of a Japanese Arita fish plate in the shape of a fish. Delicately painted in underglaze Cobalt blue. Well signed with a typical false Chinese reign mark. There are two distinct stilt marks on the tail (seen in the photographs). Size: 9 7/8 inches long by 6 ¾ wide. It stands 1 5/8 inches high. Condition: Near Perfect, no chips cracks or repairs. All the surfaces are bright and shiny. Age: Edo, probably last half of the 18th century but possibly earlier. Please see my store page for sales policy and other information.

Very rare arita set with twin bird design, well painted in underglaze deep cobalt blue. As pictured all six plates are signed. One has an early gold lacquer repair. Aside from that repair the plates are in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or other repairs. The gold repair is bright gold in color, the pictures don’t bring this out properly. Date: 18th Century. Size: Each plate varies slightly in size but they are about 7 ¾ inches across and 1 3/8 inches high. Please see our store page for sales policy and other information.

This beautiful vase depicts the late Han Dynasty myth of the koi (carp) fish that succeeds in climbing the rapids of the Yellow River in China. This myth, that carries over into Japan states the fish became a golden dragon. The saying in Japanese is “koi no taki-nobori” (“koi climbing the rapids”). The carp, conjuring images of energy, power and courage, is a worthy symbol for overcoming life’s difficulties and triumphing. The vase is particularly well crafted and proudly signed by its maker. Age: Meiji period, late 1800’s. Size 11 ¾ inches high by about 7 inches wide at the widest point. Condition: Shallow 1-inch dent to one side (as pictured). Otherwise excellent condition as pictured. Please see my store page for sales policy and other information.

Very detailed and unusual study of a hawk where the artist used only a brownish black enamel. There is some color variation from the firing process but it appears that only the one color was intended. The heavy potting and blank back may indicate an earlier date for this piece (in other words a possible pre-Meiji date). There is what appears to be a firing flaw in the middle of the design. Other than that, and some slight crazing it is in excellent condition. Size: 8 ½ by 1 ½ inches. Please see our store page for sales policy and other information.

A delightful “alive” painted snuff bottle of a frog and lotus plant. Its hand painted in enamels over a creamy white milk glass. Unlike most snuff bottles for sale today this one was obviously used and enjoyed as evidenced by the remaining tobacco. The well carved spoon in made of bone (not ivory). Age: Qing Dynasty, 19th century or before. Size: 2 7/8 inches high including the lid. Condition: Excellent, no chips, cracks or repairs. It very hard to find Japanese Arita porcelain that is pictured as part of the famous Shibata collection of such wares. This is the only example that I currently have for sale. An identical bowl can be seen in volume four page 150 and numbered 284. Its dated there to between 1760 – 1780. This bowl was repaired when it was added to our collection and it’s being sold in the same condition. The sale price reflects the reduction in price because of the damage. As you can clearly see in the photographs one piece has been re-stuck with glue. From the front the repair is not very noticeable as its almost entirely in the cobalt area. From the back its much more noticeable, again as you can see in the photographs. Size: 11 7/8i inches wide by 2 inches high. Condition and age as noted above. As with most of our items this will be professionally packed and shipped. Returns on this item will only be excepted if the bowl is professionally packed and shipped if it is returned. Please see my store page for sales policy and other information.

These four dishes are of a rare size and shape and come with excellent providence. As Mr. Bayshi states these would have once been part of a very large dinner service. The detailed design and deep color make these partially attractive. Size: 3 5/8 inches square by 1 inch high. Age: Late 18th century. Condition: As pictured, excellent, no chips, cracks or repairs. Well carved and hollowed from a uniform piece of light green jade, this is a wonderful example of 18th century Chinese craftmanship. The jade is semi polished and very translucent. Parts, especially near the two well openings are very thin. The base when tilted in the light is very wavy and uneven, obviously hand carved. Typically, less intricate then later 19th and 20th century jades. The size (7 x 4/5 inches) makes this a large and impressive bush washer. It is in perfect condition with no chips, cracks or faults. The pictured stand is NOT included but it is for sale as a separate item (Item # 1396893, stock #136). The stand was originally custom made for some long separated precious object but the bush washer fits on it and displays well as you can see.
