This dramatic Modernist oil on masonite portrait of a "Lady of Quality" is fresh from the estate of a Palm Beach collector. The painting is by Vic Tor (signed lower right) and combines his trademark vibrant and iridescent use of color and surreal quality with many years of study of the history of fashion. Vic Tor was born in Indiana and studied at the Art Institute of Chicago for six years with Isabel Steel McKinnon Rubbreck and was influenced by modern master Hans Hoffman. Vic Tor's deep interest in fashion pervades his intriguing style, which blends strong color with naturalistic objects like flowers, butterflies and birds, and the quality of photographic images. Vic Tor has had many gallery and museum exhibitions too numerous to mention. His work is highly collected and this very painting appeared on the cover of "Sunshine Artists" January 1975.
