Extremely rare Cizhou ware truncated meiping, Jin-Yuan Dynasty, with a squat ovoid body, a recessed base and a short narrow ribbed neck, freely painted with two bands of stylized flying ducks or geese over a creamy ground, the largest on the body of the jar, the smallest on the shoulder, each band within double lines. Large jar or vase by Kirk Mangus (American, 1952-2013) free form with slip and incised decoration in the form of two fishes (one large, one small, the large fish going after the small of course). Signed "Mangus" and inscribed "xox" bottom. Probably from the late eighties but could be earlier. Roughly 9" high and 8" across. Kirk Mangus is an internationally recognized American artist and ceramicist.
