Original tempera on paper mounted on board by James Martin (American, born 1928). This work is still in its original gallery frame and bears a label from the famed Otto Seligman Gallery in Seattle which states the name of the artist, the title of the work ("Smiling Owl"), the medium, and the year of creation (1962). 20" by 16" in its frame. Signed and dated l.r. James Martin is a Seattle artist (born Everett, WA). His early work (from the fifties through the mid eighties) is in the Northwest School style of Morris Graves, Kenneth Callahan and Mark Tobey (the latter was one of the first to buy Martin's early work which was, like Tobey's, shown at the Otto Seligman Gallery in the University District in Seattle.) Well listed, collected, and represented in galleries and museums.
