Original oil painting on panel by Joan Kempsmith (USA, Cleveland, born 1928), signed "Kempsmith" and dated 1950 l.l. 30" by 20" painting alone, 38" by 28" in its original frame. One of a number of such Italian-inspired works (albeit possibly the largest and most important of this group) by this artist who exhibited and won a number of first prizes in Cleveland's annual art shows starting in 1949. Joan Kempsmith is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art. She also studied in France and Italy. She was the second wife of Cleveland's acclaimed John Teyral. Her works are in the collections of the Illinois State Museum, the Canton Museum of Art (which owns a similar work titled "Palazzo Dario"), etc. Well listed in all the usual databases and reference works.
