Rare gouache on paper circa 1940s by Emanuel Glicenstein (Glicen) Romano (American born in Italy, 1897-1984). This work measures roughly 12" by 9" (19" by 15" in its frame). It is signed Glicenstein Romano l.l. Glicenstein Romano worked for the Federal Art Project creating murals in the thirties. He created a series of allegorical works depicting the Holocaust in the forties and this work may be part of that group. Glicenstein Romano is well listed and collected (Metropolitan Museum of Art, Boston Fine Arts Museum, etc.)
