Original oil or acrylic painting on board by Maccabi Greenfield (American, born in Siberia, 1918-1969). 25" by 20" in its original frame. Bears a partial exhibition label verso from the Seattle Art Museum's 37th Annual Exhibition of Northwest Artists (1951) which also gives the title of the work, and the artist's address at the time: c/o Bolotin, 9214 47th SW, Seattle, presumably the address of Ruth Greenfield Bolotin, the artist's sister. Maccabi Greenfield was born in Siberia, but his family moved to China in 1925, and eventually to Seattle in 1928. He studied at the ASL and at the Grande Chaumiere in Paris. He has an extensive Museum exhibition record (Museum of Modern Art in 1952-1953; Jewish Museum, 1952, 1955, 1956 etc.) Had a solo show at the Gallery 8 in Paris in 1950. He was known as a teacher as well as an artist. His estate is handled by the Brandt-Roberts Galleries. An extensive summary of his career can be found in "Who Was Who in American Art", pp. 1366-1367.
