Rare early oil painting on canvas by well known American artist Don Fink (Minnesota, 1923-2010), a celebrated member of the "Jeune Ecole de Paris". 22" by 26" (painting alone), 24" by 28" in its original frame. Signed lower right and dated 1951. In excellent original condition. Born in Duluth, Don Fink studied after the war at the Walker in Minneapolis, and later at the ASL in New York. He left the USA for Paris, and later Barcelona. Widely exhibited early in his career: Minneapolis Art Institute (1949-1950), University of Minnesota (1951), Hanley Gallery in Minneapolis (1951), Galerie Craven in Paris (1956) etc. He would go on to become a well-known expatriate painter in France and later in Barcelona. In 2012 his work was chosen by the French government to be included in the exhibition ArtElysees "Les Americains a Paris" with the likes of Sam Francis, Mark Tobey, Paul Jenkins, Milton Resnick, etc. Works held in a number of museums, including the Musee d'Art Moderne (Paris), the Whitney (New York), the Brooklyn Museum, the Munson Williams Proctor Museum in Utica, NY, etc.
